End Pickaxe
End Pickaxe is a tiny mod with one clear purpose: it lets you break End Portal Frames in survival. Normally they are unbreakable, so a misplaced portal or a stronghold you want to dismantle stays that way forever. With this mod, one special tool changes that.
It adds a single item and touches nothing else. No new blocks, no recipe changes, no config to dig through. Everything else in your world stays vanilla.
Why players install it
- Break End Portal Frames in survival, something vanilla doesn't allow.
- Get the frame back as an item, plus any Eye of Ender that was inside it.
- Close an active End Portal simply by breaking one of its frames.
- Breaking works like mining obsidian, so Efficiency, Haste and Mining Fatigue all affect the time exactly as you'd expect.
- Find the tool as rare loot in End Cities, so it feels like a real discovery.
The End Pickaxe
- 2031 durability (same as a netherite pickaxe)
- Fire resistant
- Works as a regular pickaxe on every other block
- Cannot be crafted: you have to find it
How it works
Breaking frames. In survival, End Portal Frames can only be broken while holding the End Pickaxe. With any other tool they stay unbreakable, exactly as in vanilla.
Drops. A broken frame drops itself. If an Eye of Ender was placed in it, the eye drops too.
Closing the portal. When a frame is broken, the End Portal blocks around it disappear, so the portal closes cleanly instead of hanging in the air.
Mining speed. A frame is treated like a block with the hardness of obsidian. That means the standard Minecraft mining rules apply: the pickaxe's speed, every Efficiency level, Haste, Mining Fatigue, being underwater and being in the air all change how long it takes.
| Efficiency | Approx. time to break a frame |
|---|---|
| None | ~8.3 s |
| I | ~6.8 s |
| II | ~5.4 s |
| III | ~3.9 s |
| IV | ~2.9 s |
| V | ~2.1 s |
Times are for standing on the ground with no potion effects.
Creative mode. Frames can be broken as usual and drop nothing, so builders are never blocked.
Where to find it
End Pickaxes can appear in End City treasure chests, with a small chance (about 2%) per chest. It is meant to be rare, so go exploring.
