Wool Elevators
Stand on a wool block and jump — you rise to the next wool block of the same colour above you. Sneak — you drop to the next one below. That is the whole thing.
No mod. No new block to craft. Nothing for players to install: the server has the datapack, everyone gets elevators.
Same colour, same shaft
A red shaft and a blue shaft can run side by side in the same wall without ever mixing up. That also means ordinary stacked wool in a build will not send anyone flying — the colours have to line up.
Sixteen wool colours, sixteen independent shafts.
| Jump | Rise to the next block of the same colour above you |
| Sneak | Drop to the next one below |
| Range | Up to 64 blocks per ride, adjustable |
| Blocked? | Two free blocks are needed above the landing, otherwise you stay put and hear a short note |
| Cooldown | A few ticks after each ride, so holding jump does not launch you through the whole tower |
Settings
/scoreboard players set #range el 64 how far one ride may reach, in blocks
/scoreboard players set #cool el 8 ticks of cooldown after a ride
Both survive restarts and /reload.
Installation
Server
- Put the
.zipinto<level-name>/datapacks/ /reload, or restart the server
Singleplayer
- Put the
.zipinto.minecraft/saves/<world>/datapacks/ /reload
Works on a world you already play. It changes no world data and no recipes.
Why a datapack and not a mod
Every other elevator for Minecraft is a mod. That means installing it, keeping it in step with your loader, and — for most of them — every player installing it too.
This is a datapack:
- Server-side only. Players install nothing and notice nothing except that jumping on wool now takes them somewhere.
- Works on Vanilla, Fabric, NeoForge, Paper, Purpur, Folia — the loader does not matter.
- Nothing is added to the game. No new items, no new recipes, no new blocks. Wool stays wool everywhere else.
Tested, not assumed
Every promise on this page is checked by an automated test on a real server, on 26.1, 26.2 and 26.3:
| Check | |
|---|---|
| Jumping rides up to the next block of the same colour | ✅ |
| Sneaking rides back down | ✅ |
| A different colour in between is skipped | ✅ |
| No matching block, no ride | ✅ |
| Blocked landing, no ride | ✅ |
Beyond #range, no ride |
✅ |
And with a real player connected, jumping and sneaking really trigger it — not just the internal functions.
FAQ
Does it work with any wool? Yes, all sixteen colours. Both ends of a ride must be the same colour.
Will my existing wool builds turn into elevators? Only if two blocks of the same colour sit in the same vertical line with a free landing — and then only when someone deliberately jumps or sneaks on one.
Can I use it in singleplayer? Yes, the same way.
Does it break mob spawning, redstone or anything else? No. It adds nothing and replaces nothing. It only reacts to jumping and sneaking.
