LagTrace is an advanced Minecraft server performance diagnostics and lag hotspot detection plugin designed to help server administrators identify where problematic activity is occurring across their worlds. Instead of simply reporting that a server is experiencing low TPS or high MSPT, LagTrace analyzes loaded world activity and identifies the most significant hotspots, providing precise world coordinates that administrators can investigate directly. š Hotspot Detection LagTrace analyzes currently loaded chunks across the server's worlds and ranks the most significant activity hotspots. The plugin divides activity into small spatial areas so that problematic locations can be identified much more precisely than simply reporting an entire chunk. The /lagtrace command currently reports the top 3 detected hotspots, including their world, exact X/Y/Z coordinates, activity score, entity activity, and block entity activity. š Precise Coordinates Every detected hotspot includes its exact location. Coordinates are clickable in chat, allowing administrators to quickly prepare a teleport command and inspect the location directly in-game. š¦ Dropped Item Analysis LagTrace doesn't simply count dropped-item entities. Minecraft can combine large quantities of items into individual item entities, so LagTrace reads the actual stack amount and reports the real number of dropped items. For example, 72 item entities containing a combined 4,608 items are reported as: Dropped Items: 4608 rather than simply reporting 72. LagTrace can also break down dropped items by type, making it easier to identify unusually large item piles. āļø Entity Analysis Entity activity is analyzed by type, allowing administrators to see which entities are present at a hotspot. The report can identify concentrations of mobs, dropped items, vehicles, and other entities that may require investigation. š§± Block Entity Analysis LagTrace also analyzes block entities in hotspot areas and reports the detected types. This helps identify areas containing large concentrations of block entities such as hoppers, furnaces, chests, and other interactive blocks. š World-Wide Analysis LagTrace is not restricted to the player's immediate surroundings. It analyzes chunks that are already loaded across the server's worlds, allowing hotspots to be detected outside the player's current location. LagTrace deliberately avoids force-loading or generating unloaded chunks during analysis. This prevents the diagnostic process itself from unnecessarily generating terrain or introducing additional server load. š Detailed Diagnostics The goal of LagTrace is to provide useful diagnostic information rather than overwhelming administrators with meaningless numbers. Detected activity is grouped and presented in a readable report so that server administrators can quickly determine where further investigation should take place. š Development Roadmap LagTrace is actively being developed. Future versions are planned to expand the diagnostic system with deeper performance sampling, MSPT and tick analysis, historical hotspot tracking, more activity sources, improved diagnosis, heatmap visualization, and additional server performance tools. LagTrace is being developed by Redstone Circuits, with the goal of creating a professional toolkit for Minecraft server administrators who need more than a simple TPS monitor. Stop guessing where your server is lagging. Trace it.
