TabPrefix adds custom group prefixes to your server’s TAB list, chat and optional name tags. Create formatted text, upload images or use animated GIFs, then manage your prefixes through a built-in web editor.
TabPrefix integrates with LuckPerms and stores custom prefixes separately from your permission nodes. Prefixes belong to groups, so changing a group’s prefix updates its appearance for all members.
Requires Spigot, Paper or Purpur 1.16–1.16.5, Java 8+ and LuckPerms.
With TabPrefix, you can:
- Create text prefixes using MiniMessage, legacy color codes, RGB colors and configurable formatting.
- Upload PNG, JPEG and GIF files, with transparency support and automatic JPEG orientation.
- Animate GIF prefixes in TAB and enabled name tags. Chat messages display the frame selected when the message was sent.
- Edit prefixes in your browser with drag-and-drop uploads, cropping, resizing, flipping, rotation, brightness, contrast and saturation controls.
- Preview your changes before applying them, including text formatting and GIF playback.
- Generate resource packs automatically, with font atlases, versioned downloads, saved revisions and rollback controls.
- Use text fallbacks for recipients who have not successfully loaded the resource pack.
- Manage group selection using LuckPerms primary groups or group weights, with support for player contexts.
- Control access through permissions, including separate editor, prefix management, resource pack and administrative permissions.
- Review administrative activity through chat notifications and a persistent audit log.
- Choose English or Russian for messages and the editor interface.
The editor uses personal sessions bound to the player and selected group. Saving creates a draft and a code; the prefix is applied in-game after ownership, group and expiration checks.
To get started:
- Install LuckPerms.
- Place the TabPrefix JAR in your server’s
pluginsfolder and restart the server. - Open
plugins/TabPrefix/config.ymland setweb.public-hostto an IP address or domain reachable by your players. - Make the editor’s TCP port accessible through your hosting panel or network settings. The default port is 8765. Address and port changes require a server restart.
- Grant the appropriate permissions, then run
/lptab webeditorin-game.
The web editor runs on the Minecraft server machine. HTTPS can be configured through a reverse proxy using web.public-base-url.
To create an image prefix, open your editor link, upload an image or GIF, adjust its appearance and generate a save code. Apply it using the command shown by the editor:
/lptab webpref <code>
Players must accept and successfully load the generated resource pack to see graphical prefixes.

Editor access must be granted explicitly. Give group editing permissions to users who are allowed to change the prefix for every member of their group. Name tag rendering is optional and disabled by default.
