Welcome to 'Souls Mod'!

Mod Features

Soul Types
Every Soul has its own type and color!
There are 16 basic Souls: Determination, Bravery, Justice, Kindness, Patience, Integrity, Wisdom, Fear, Compassion, Love, Hope, Hopelessness, Hate, Mischief, Curiosity, and Ignorance.
Basic Souls give your character an identity without changing gameplay mechanics.
There are also 4 unique Souls with special mechanics: Draconic, Corrupted, Vigil, and Omnipotent.
The Omnipotent Soul can be assigned to a player at random. It takes on a random basic Soul type and changes again every 20–60 minutes. Installing the Dice mod alongside Souls adds another way to obtain it.
Lives and Lifesteal
The main mechanic!
Players start with 3 lives by default. Server operators can configure the starting amount from 3 to 10.
Every death costs a life. Killing another player grants you a life if you have room for one.
You can craft an Artificial Heart as a PvE alternative to gaining a life through PvP.
You can transfer a life to another player with a Book and Quill. Write their username in the book and sign it with their correct Soul type as the title. Destroying the resulting book takes one of your lives and gives it to that player.
Lives are shown in the HUD, above players, and in the player list.
Souls, Sacrifice, and the Soul Altar
Dabble in magic and sacrifice!
Write your own username in a Book and Quill and sign it with your Soul type to obtain your Soul as an item. This self-sacrifice leaves you with half a life and 5 hearts.
Destroying a player's Soul item instantly kills its owner, regardless of their current life count. A Soul item thrown into the void returns to its owner; if a player is eliminated by the void, their Soul drops at world spawn.
Use the Soul Altar to craft Artificial Lives, revive players, bind two players' Souls, and infuse a Soul:
Craft an Artificial Life with a Totem of Undying and a Nether Star.
Revive a player with their Soul item and a Nether Star.
Bind two players after both have sacrificed their Souls.
A Deactivated Soul Altar can be found in a Nether structure. Right-click it to learn which 3 randomized mob drops are needed to activate it.
A working Altar needs Soul Lanterns and Soul Dust. Successful uses consume placed Soul Dust unless at least 12 Soul Dust is stored inside the Altar.
Soul Dust drops from Skeletons (1%), Wither Skeletons (5%), and Ghasts (20%).
Craft an Eye of Sorrow by surrounding an Ender Pearl with 8 Ghast Tears. Using it points you toward the nearest Soul Altar structure containing an Altar. After use, it has a 70% chance to drop and a 30% chance to break.
Ghost Mode
OoO0ooO0oo0o, scary!
When you run out of lives, you enter Ghost Mode while waiting to be revived. Ghosts can:
G: Toggle visibility to living players.
H: Toggle a glowing outline while visible.
Right-click: Possess a mob.
X: Leave a possessed mob.
R: Use a possessed mob's ability, such as a Creeper explosion or Enderman teleport.
I: Toggle footprints visible to living players.
O: Leave a short message pin for living players.
Possession also supports abilities for Blazes, Breezes, Armadillos, Pufferfish, Evokers, and Witches. Wardens, Withers, Ender Dragons, and Elder Guardians cannot be possessed through normal Ghost possession.
Ghosts can phase up to 8 blocks into solid terrain. The deeper they go, the darker and hazier their view becomes; their view while phasing is limited to 32 blocks. Ghosts cannot open or inspect containers. Ghosts possessing mobs can still see other Ghosts.
Living Possession
Let the living borrow a Ghost's trick!
Living Possession must be granted by a server operator. It is not obtained through normal gameplay.
Hold the Living Possession keybind while looking at a mob for 3 seconds to possess it. The keybind starts unbound and can be set under Souls in Controls.
While possessing a mob, hold the same keybind on another mob for 5 seconds to switch bodies.
You need at least 2.5 hearts to begin. Leaving possession costs 2 hearts, but cannot reduce you below half a heart.
Living Possession lasts twice as long and recharges twice as fast as Ghost possession. The other possession rules and cooldowns still apply.
When you leave or the mob dies, you return to where the possession began—or where you last switched bodies—and to your previous game mode.
A player with a Corrupted Soul and Living Possession can possess a Warden and use its Sonic Boom with R.
Living Possession is unavailable while you are a Ghost and returns when you are revived.
Operators can grant or remove it with /souls possess, /souls possess <player> <true/false>, or grant it to a random player with /souls possess random.
Soul-Binding and Unique Soul Powers
Soul-binding joins two willing players at the Soul Altar. They share 5 lives by default; operators can configure this from 3 to 15. A death reduces the shared total. A bound player can drop their separate Soul on death and be revived to separate the bond.
Infuse a sacrificed Soul at the Altar with a Dragon Egg to obtain the Draconic Soul, which grants 2 extra hearts per life.
Infuse it with a Warden Heart to obtain the Corrupted Soul. Wardens have a 5% chance to drop a Warden Heart. Corrupting a player by eliminating them grants an additional heart.
Infuse it with a Wither Rib to obtain the Vigil Soul. The Wither has a 20% chance to drop a Wither Rib. Vigil Soul holders can track Draconic and Corrupted Soul holders and disable their bonus health within 64 blocks.
Infusion also requires a Sacrificial Item. Its required item is randomized when a world is created and after a successful infusion. Poems in books found at Soul Book Shrines hint at the current items.
The Soulrender
One dangerous weapon for the whole world.
Press R while holding the Soulrender and looking at another player to tear out their Soul. The original Corrupted Soul holder instead corrupts the target.
Using the Soulrender costs 100 of its 250 durability and starts a 15-minute cooldown. The weapon survives lava.
Its Altar recipe uses a Netherite Sword, Soul Ingot, and Soul Template, takes 15 minutes, and is announced vaguely to online players. Only one crafted Soulrender can exist per world or server.
The recipe is disabled by default. Operators can enable it in the config or with /souls config soulrenderrecipe true. The weapon remains available through Creative mode or commands.
Craft a Soul Ingot at the Altar from a Netherite Ingot and an Eye of Sorrow in 10 minutes. Soul Ingots can also give armor trims a unique color.
Craft a Soul Template at the Altar from 64 Soul Dust, an Artificial Life, and a Warden Heart in 30 minutes. Soul Templates cannot be duplicated.
Structures, Books, and Other Blocks
The mod adds Nether Soul Altar structures and Soul Book Shrines in the Overworld, Nether, and End. Shrine books contain clues to the Sacrificial Items.
New players receive the Soul-dex, an in-game guide to Souls, lives, hearts, and elimination. You can also craft it from a Book or Book and Quill plus a Bone.
Craft a Soul Lectern by surrounding a Lectern with 8 Soul Dust. It can display and let players read the three Sacrificial Item books, or display another player's Soul item. Operators can lock or unlock Soul Lecterns with /souls lectern lock and /souls lectern unlock.
The Puzzle Block is crafted from a Chiseled Stone Brick surrounded by 8 Redstone. Right-click to push it, or crouch and right-click to pull it. It is affected by gravity and can trigger Observers.
Decorative blocks include Polished Blackstone and Polished Deepslate Trapdoors, plus fences, fence gates, and ladders for both materials and a Polished Deepslate Button. You can also give an Armor Stand arms by right-clicking it while holding 2 Sticks.
Soul Lantern flames glow with compatible shaders.
Soul Altar recipes can be viewed with REI or JEI. The mod also includes compatibility for Jade, WTHIT, Simple Voice Chat, Mod Menu, Flashback, Replay Mod, Overflowing Bars, and SMPly Status. With Simple Voice Chat, Ghosts can hear one another even while possessing mobs. Possessed players can speak through supported mobs; players using Living Possession can only be heard while possessing a mob that can speak.
