Villagers Who Remember You
NowTheyTalk turns ordinary Minecraft villagers into persistent characters with names, personalities, moods, preferences, and individual relationships with every player.
Instead of opening the same trading screen every time, players can talk to villagers, learn what they like, build friendships, make enemies, give gifts, and influence the prices they receive.
Every Villager Is Different
Each villager receives a:
- Name and gender
- Personality
- Daily mood
- Profession
- Friendship value for every player
- Liked gift and favorite gift
These traits remain attached to the villager, giving every village its own recognizable community.
Talk and Build Relationships
Players can start conversations through a simple interaction menu.
The villager's response depends on their current mood. Conversations may increase or decrease friendship, and talking too many times during the same day can gradually worsen the villager's mood.
Relationships are completely player-specific. One villager may trust one player while disliking another.
Earn Discounts or Face Higher Prices
Positive conversation points earned during one Minecraft day can provide a personal discount on the following day.
Discounts become active around midday and remain available until evening. They apply to the first required item in a trade, so they can affect emeralds, crops, paper, and other materials.
Villagers also remember negative relationships. If a villager strongly dislikes a player, their prices gradually increase. Improving the relationship reduces this surcharge.
Vanilla reputation, demand, Hero of the Village, and normal Minecraft trade limits are preserved.
Discover and Give Gifts
Every villager has one item they like and another they love.
Villagers may occasionally reveal their preferences during conversation. Players can then offer an item from their main hand:
- A liked gift improves the relationship.
- A favorite gift provides a larger friendship increase.
- An unwanted gift reduces friendship.
- Positive gifts have daily limits, while unwanted gifts do not.
The gift button changes color to show how the villager reacted.
Designed for Multiplayer
Friendship, gifts, discounts, and surcharges are tracked separately for every player-villager pair.
This means players sharing the same village can have completely different relationships and trade prices with the same villager.
Fully Configurable and Translatable
Server administrators can customize:
- Conversation responses and probabilities
- Friendship gains and losses
- Gift items, selection weights, and reactions
- Discount and surcharge thresholds
- Discount hours
- Villager names
- Personality and mood probabilities
- GUI labels, professions, relationship descriptions, and system messages
All player-facing text is stored in editable YAML files. Minecraft item names use each player's selected client language.

- No additional plugins required
Beta Notice
This is the first public beta of NowTheyTalk. It has passed automated and hands-on testing, but unexpected situations may still occur on large or heavily customized servers.
Back up your world before installing beta software and restart the server when replacing the plugin JAR.
