Have you ever opened your Minecraft 1.8.9 Resource Pack menu with hundreds or thousands of texture packs, only to have your game completely freeze for 10 to 30 seconds (or crash outright)?
Other folder organizer mods often make this problem even worse by scanning every .zip archive synchronously on the main game thread. McPacks fixes this from the ground up by replacing the entire loading pipeline with asynchronous multi-threaded computing, lazy folder navigation, in-memory global search, and 3-layer deep nested folder organization.
This Mod is For You If:
- You have a huge collection of Texture Packs (100, 500, 1,000+ packs) and are tired of painful menu freezes.
- You play Minecraft 1.8.9 (PvP, Hypixel, Bedwars, Skywars, PotPvP, or Survival).
- You want lightning-fast loading speeds when opening and browsing your Resource Pack screen.
- You want clean, 3-layer deep nested folder organization with intuitive breadcrumb navigation.
- You want to instantly search across 1,000+ texture packs in real-time without typing lag.
Key Features
1. Nested Folder Organization
Organize your texture packs however you want without cluttering the root folder:
.minecraft/resourcepacks/
├── PvP/ [Layer 1]
│ ├── 1.8/ [Layer 2]
│ │ ├── Clean/ [Layer 3]
│ │ │ ├── DynamicPvP.zip
│ │ │ └── SpeedDefault.zip
│ │ └── ShortSwords/ [Layer 3]
│ │ └── TightSwords.zip
│ └── 1.7/ [Layer 2]
├── DefaultEdit/ [Layer 1]
│ ├── 32x/ [Layer 2]
│ │ └── Faithful32x.zip
│ └── 64x/ [Layer 2]
└── SoundPacks/ [Layer 1]
└── AmbientSounds.zip
- Folder Badges: Every folder shows real-time pack counts (e.g.
[14 packs]) and current depth tags ([Layer 1/3],[Layer 2/3]). - Enforced 3-Layer Limit: Keeps your hierarchy structured, clean, and blazingly responsive.
2. Asynchronous and Multi-Threaded
- Lazy Directory Navigation: Only the packs and folders in the currently open folder level are loaded. Subfolders with thousands of packs are never touched until you open them.
- Background Multi-Threaded Decoding:
pack.pngthumbnails andpack.mcmetadescriptions are decoded in the background via a dedicated worker thread pool. - Asynchronous OpenGL Texture Pipeline: Prevents FPS drops and micro-stutters when scrolling through long lists.
- Procedural Vector Icons: Sharp, built-in vector icons for folders and navigation without extra texture dependencies.
3. Instant Global Search (< 1ms)
- Built-in live search bar in the menu header.
- An asynchronous background indexer keeps an in-memory index of all your packs across all 3 nested layers.
- Instant keystroke filtering: Type
PvPorFaithfulto instantly see matching packs across your entire disk in under 1ms.
Performance Benchmarks
Tested on a collection of 1,100 resource packs across 3 nested folder layers:
| Metric | Vanilla / Other Mods | McPacks (This Mod) |
|---|---|---|
| Initial Folder Open Time | 15s - 30s (Freeze) | 1.02ms (Instant) |
| Indexing 1,100 Packs (3 Layers) | Synchronous blocking | 42ms (Background) |
| Global Search Query Time | N/A or laggy | 0.76 ms |
| Memory / FPS Impact | Severe stuttering | Smooth 60+ FPS |
