Resonant Instruments
Sound, vibration, and frequency attuned into powerful tools that grant players the power to manipulate the world around them. Each earned through a unique in-world formation rather than found in a crafting table.
Core Concept: Attunement
Everything begins with the Unattuned Fork, a blank instrument with no innate power. Rather than crafting your way to each ability, you attune the fork by performing a specific action in the world. This works as striking the item against the right block, creature, or moment in time. Each attunement permanently transforms the fork into one of five Harmonics, each with its own mechanic, progression, and cost.
There is no single "best" fork. Each Harmonic is obtained independently, and a player can pursue whichever ones suit their playstyle.
The Harmonics
Harmonic of Vitality
Attunement: Right-click an Unattuned Fork against a fully grown crop, or against an animal.
Shift Right-click near crops to trigger accelerated growth in the surrounding area. Right-click near animals to trigger breeding or accelerate a baby animal's growth timer. A natural, ritual-based alternative to farming and breeding tools.
Harmonic of Resonance
Attunement: Strike an Unattuned Fork against bedrock at the very bottom of the world.
Functions as a universal mining tool, capable of breaking any type of block. Rather than being end-game powerful from the moment it's obtained, the Harmonic of Resonance hones in its frequency the more it's used. Its effective mining level and damage scale up over time. As the level increases, new materials will be able to be harvested with it. The top-tier mining capability of the item is a higher level than netherite.
Harmonic of Chronos
Attunement: Strike an Unattuned Fork against an Enchanting Table at exactly midnight.
Tick-accelerates blocks, letting machines and processes complete faster. However, its power comes at a cost. Use of the item will drain the player's hunger or health if there's no hunger left to drain.
Harmonic of Alchemy
Attunement: Infuse an Unattuned Fork with a potion at a Resonance Chamber.
Becomes a reusable potion tool. Right-click in the air to apply the stored potion effect to yourself, or right-click an entity to apply it to them.
Harmonic of Divination
Attunement: Strike an Unattuned Fork against a Budding Amethyst.
"Tunes" the fork to whatever material it was last used on. Right-click on any block to set the frequency, then left-click on any block to ring the fork. It will search for the nearest matching item, and shoot a particle in the direction of it. Useful for locating ore veins, geodes, or specific structures. A cooldown prevents it from being spammed as an instant radar.
Blocks
- Marble, Runed Marble, Engraved Marble — decorative stone-family blocks that also serve as the structural base for the Resonance Chamber ritual.
- Resonance Chamber — The multiblock ritual centerpiece. Used to infuse potions into forks for the Harmonic of Alchemy, and is the intermediate stage when carving a Harmonic Node (see below).
- Harmonic Node — A secondary functional block, carved from a Resonance Chamber. Used for placing potions that you want to infuse into the Harmonic of Alchemy.
The Carving Knife
A dedicated crafting tool for shaping the mod's ritual blocks by hand:
- Right-click any log to strip it.
- Right-click a stripped Spruce Log specifically to whittle it into a Resonance Chamber.
- Right-click the Resonance Chamber again to further carve it into a Harmonic Node.
Documentation
Resonant Instruments has a full in-game guide book through the Patchouli mod. The book covers every attunement ritual, mechanic, and crafting step.
JEI integration is also included. Pressing "U" while hovering your cursor over an Unattuned Fork, Resonance Chamber, or Harmonic Node pulls up quick-reference info pages summarizing how to obtain and use each Harmonic.
Compatibility
- Patchouli and JEI are supported and recommended, but fully optional. Resonant Instruments has no hard dependency on either and will run without them, though the in-game documentation obviously requires Patchouli to view and JEI to browse the quick-reference pages.
Requirements
- Minecraft 26.1.2
- NeoForge
