Capture Egg
Capture Egg is a lightweight Fabric mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 SMP that adds a reusable item for capturing, carrying, and releasing mobs.
Instead of transporting mobs with boats, minecarts, leads, or long tunnels, you can simply store one inside a Capture Egg and release it somewhere else.
✨ Features
- Capture living mobs by right-clicking them with an empty Capture Egg
- Release the stored mob by right-clicking while holding the filled egg
- Each egg can hold one mob at a time
- The egg becomes empty and reusable after releasing the mob
- Captured mobs keep their saved data
- Supports vanilla mobs and many modded living entities
- Filled Capture Eggs have an enchantment glint
- Displays the captured mob’s name in the tooltip
- Displays villager professions in the tooltip
- Preserves villager professions and trading offers
- Includes capture and release sound effects
- Capture Eggs cannot stack, keeping every stored mob separate
🧑🌾 Capturing Villagers
Villagers normally open their trading menu when right-clicked.
To capture a villager, hold an empty Capture Egg and use:
Shift + Right Click
The same control is used for Wandering Traders.
When a villager is captured, the egg tooltip displays both the villager’s name and profession, such as:
- Fletcher
- Farmer
- Librarian
- Armorer
- Toolsmith
The villager’s profession and trades are preserved when released.
🎮 How to Use
- Craft a Capture Egg
- Hold the empty egg in your hand
- Right-click a mob to capture it
- Right-click again to release the stored mob
- Reuse the empty egg whenever needed
An empty egg displays:
Empty — right-click a mob to capture it
A filled egg displays the name of the captured mob and gains an enchantment glint.
🐉 Uncapturable Mobs
The Ender Dragon cannot be captured by default.
The mod also includes an uncapturable entity-type tag, allowing modpack creators to prevent additional mobs or bosses from being captured.
📦 Requirements
- Minecraft 1.20.1
- Fabric Loader 0.19.3 or newer
- Fabric API
- Java 17
The mod should be installed on both the server and every player’s client when used in multiplayer.
