Ultimine Unchained
A companion mod for FTB Ultimine. Mine the whole shape. Without destroying your tool.
FTB Ultimine is great. You hold a button, you mine a 3x3 tunnel or a 16-block square in a single click. And then you run into the two problems that have annoyed everyone who's used it for more than ten minutes.
Two Frustrations, Fixed
Your shape leaves holes. FTB Ultimine compares the hardness of every block in your shape against the first block you targeted. Any block even slightly harder than that target gets skipped, even though your pickaxe could mine it just fine. Stripmining a Mining Tunnel through stone? Every copper ore, iron ore, or slightly harder rock in the shape gets left behind, ruining the tunnel and forcing a cleanup pass.
Ultimine Unchained suppresses the hardness comparison. Every block in your shape that your tool is actually capable of mining gets mined. Bedrock, barriers, and other indestructible blocks are still skipped automatically. No more cleanup pass.
Your tool dies in seconds. FTB Ultimine takes one durability hit per block mined, and it bypasses Unbreaking entirely. Mining Tunnel = 64 blocks = 64 durability lost, with no Unbreaking procs to mitigate any of it. A diamond pickaxe with Unbreaking III, freshly repaired, can be destroyed in two or three operations.
Ultimine Unchained replaces that with two configurable durability modes:
- Flat (default): the whole operation costs a fixed number of durability points regardless of how many blocks you broke. Default is 1, so a 64-block ultimine costs the same as breaking a single block by hand.
- Percentage: durability scales with the actual block count. Set it to 50% and a 64-block operation costs 32 durability. Set it to 100% to restore stock FTB Ultimine durability behaviour. Either way, Unbreaking enchantments now apply normally with the same chance-based reduction vanilla Minecraft uses on every other tool.
Tune It If You Want
Most players will leave the defaults alone: every block in the shape, 1 durability per operation. If you want it different, the in-game config screen exposes everything. Adjust durability cost from "completely free" to "full vanilla per-block," or turn off the hardness override if you specifically want stock FTB Ultimine's shape-skipping behaviour back.
Works With
Every FTB Ultimine shape works the same way: Shapeless, Small Tunnel, Small Square, Large Tunnel, Mining Tunnel, Escape Tunnel. Every tool type FTB supports works too: pickaxes, axes, shovels, swords, shears, and any modded tools it recognizes.
Right-click actions (hoe tilling, axe stripping, shovel flattening, crop harvesting) are handled entirely by FTB Ultimine and aren't touched by this mod. Fortune, Silk Touch, and other loot enchantments still work normally. The only things this mod changes are the hardness check and the durability cost.
Pairs especially well with GeoStrata, where 27 different rock types mean your strip mines pass through stones of wildly varying hardness. Ultimine Unchained makes sure you cut through all of them in one swing instead of leaving the hard bits stranded.
Compatibility
Ultimine Unchained is built for Minecraft 1.20.1 (Forge and Fabric) and 1.21.1 (Fabric and NeoForge). Requires FTB Ultimine itself, Architectury API, and (on Fabric) Cloth Config for the in-game config screen.
