Recipe Remainders
Recipe Remainders lets datapack recipes return an item after crafting. It works like a milk bucket returning an empty bucket, except the recipe chooses what each ingredient leaves behind.
The mod does not add recipes on its own. Only recipes that use recipe_remainders:with_remainder are affected.
Shown with the separate Shulker Box Uncrafting datapack.
What it supports
- Regular shaped and shapeless recipes
- Different remainder stacks for different ingredients in one recipe
- Remainder stacks with custom counts and components
- Wrapped ingredients that use tags and other Fabric ingredient types
- Player crafting, recipe-book autofill, and crafter blocks
- Vanilla clients can join servers using Recipe Remainders
Requirements
- Minecraft 26.2
- Fabric Loader 0.19.3 or a compatible newer version
- Fabric API 0.158.0+26.2 or newer for Minecraft 26.2
- Java 25
Install Recipe Remainders and Fabric API on the dedicated server, or in the client installation for singleplayer. Vanilla Minecraft 26.2 clients can join without either mod. Installing both on a Fabric client makes custom remainders appear immediately and lets the recipe book check item components correctly.
Installation
- Install Fabric Loader and Fabric API for Minecraft 26.2.
- Put the Recipe Remainders JAR in the server's
modsfolder, or in the localmodsfolder for singleplayer. - Add a datapack that uses Recipe Remainders to the world's
datapacksfolder. - Restart the game/server, or run
/reloadafter changing a datapack.
Datapack format
Wrap only the ingredient entry that needs a custom remainder:
{
"fabric:type": "recipe_remainders:with_remainder",
"base": "minecraft:cobblestone",
"remainder": {
"id": "minecraft:stick",
"count": 2
}
}
base can be any valid Minecraft 26.2 ingredient, including an item, tag, or nested Fabric custom ingredient. remainder is a standard item-stack template and may include a count and components.
See the full documentation and example recipes on GitHub.
Shulker Box Uncrafting datapack
The demo above uses Shulker Box Uncrafting, a separate datapack that turns an empty shulker box into two shells and returns its chest. Only completely empty boxes can be uncrafted.
Installing Recipe Remainders alone does not add the uncrafting recipe. Download the datapack on Modrinth, or see its source and documentation on GitHub.
