Atomic
Minimal Mods. MAXIMUM Performance.
How to setup Atomic
- Download Atomic (the modpack)
- Import the .mrpack (or just download it straight from your launcher)
- Apply these JVM arguments:
-Xms2G -Xmx4G -XX:MaxMetaspaceSize=268M -XX:+UseG1GC -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=100 -XX:InitiatingHeapOccupancyPercent=40 -XX:+ParallelRefProcEnabled -XX:+DisableExplicitGC
- If you use a 64-bit modern OS like Windows 10/11, MacOS, or Linux use these instead:
- (ATOMIC RECOMMENDS AZUL ZULU JAVA 17!)
-XX:+UseZGC -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -Xms3G -Xmx4G -XX:MaxMetaspaceSize=276M
Looking for Wayland builds? (LINUX ONLY)
- Atomic for Wayland: https://modrinth.com/modpack/atomic-(wayland)
And you're done you can hit play!
- If your launcher complains about you trying to manually set the RAM remove these arguments and set it via instance settings:
-Xms2G -Xmx4G -XX:MaxMetaspaceSize=268M

How I test them
World fully loaded, same visuals (blocks/entities/clouds), VSync off, FPS uncapped, F3 enabled + rapid toggle, defaults for each pack, JVM only tuned where provided.
NOTE: These are just comparisons all of these modpacks are great and the count is just for reference.
FAQ (5 questions)
Why 1.17.1?
- Newer Minecraft versions can introduce more worldgen complexity and rendering overhead, which can drastically reduce performance on low-end hardware.
Why are you strict about mods?
- Every additional mod increases CPU, memory, and loading overhead. I only include mods that improve performance or stability.
Why Fabric?
- Fabric is a lightweight, simple, and fast mod-loader and works really well for Atomic.
Will you add QoL mo-
- No. Atomic is built to be optimized and lightweight not include redundant QoL or bloat mods but it is still highly recommended to replace OptiFine with Atomic.
Will you upload it to CurseForge?
- No, the official modpack will be Modrinth only.
Default Launcher Instructions
-
Download Fabric (https://fabricmc.net/)
-
Make sure you're in the client tab
-
Open the installer and set the game version to 1.17.1 and loader version to 0.18.4
-
Click install
-
When it's finished download the modpack.
-
Convert the .mrpack with this tool: https://jamie.codeberg.page/mrpack-to-zip/@master/
-
Extract the .zip and open your .minecraft folder (C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\minecraft)
-
Now open the .zip and select all the files and drag them into your .minecraft folder and you might get an message about files w/ the same name just hit "Replace the files in destination" THIS WILL OVERWRITE YOUR EXISTING CONFIG AND MODS!
-
Open the Minecraft Launcher and select the "Installations" tab and click the 3 dots and then "Edit" now click "More Options" and replace the JVM args with the ones listed at the top of the page and click "Done" once you're finished.
-
Now go back to the "Play" tab and you can launch the game.
Atomic's purpose
Atomic's purpose is to be a strict optimization pack designed to run on weaker systems. Atomic includes only mods that improve performance or stability and can only have 1 mod to optimize a certain part of the game
