Cinematic: Shader
Most shader packs try to make Minecraft prettier. This one tries to make it look like a movie.
Cinematic: Shader is part of the Cinematic family. It's built around the things you notice first in a film shot: fog, rain, reflections, and light breaking through the trees. It's tuned for slow camera moves and wide shots, not for counting how many blocks away a creeper is.
🌫️ Atmosphere
- Height fog: thicker in valleys and thinner on hills. It thickens in rain, and a low mist creeps over the ground at dawn, dusk and night.
- Light shafts: sunbeams cut through leaves, windows and fog. When the sun hides behind a tree, a hill or a cloud, rays spill out around it, even far away.
- Cave fog: underground, distance fades into dim gray haze instead of pure black. You know something's down there; you just can't quite see it.
- Soft, moving clouds: lit by the sun. They cast shadows that drift across the land.
🌧️ Rain
- Wet ground: rain slowly darkens and soaks everything under the open sky.
- Puddles: they form on open ground, reflect the trees and buildings around them, and dry up when the rain stops.
- Ripples: raindrops leave rings on puddles, rivers and lakes.
- Slanted rain: the rain falls at an angle in the wind and catches the light.
- Raindrops on the lens: drops land on the camera and slide down during cutscenes.
💧 Water, ice and glass
- Clear water: shallow water is clear turquoise and deep water fades to dark.
- Refraction: the bottom bends under the waves.
- Reflections: water mirrors the hills, trees and buildings around it. Off-screen parts fall back to the sky and clouds.
- Caustics: dancing light patterns on the bottom of sunlit water.
- Ice and glass: ice is glossy and reflective; windows reflect softly.
☀️ Light
- Shadows: soft shadows, plus colored light through stained glass and water.
- Time of day: warm sunrises, white noon light, and cool blue moonlight.
- Torches: gently flickering warm torchlight, and held torches light up your surroundings.
- The sun: a glowing sun with an anamorphic lens streak and soft lens ghosts when you look into it.
- Bloom: bright things like lava, glowstone and fire glow softly.
🎬 The cinema camera
This is the part no other pack has. The shader knows when the camera leaves your eyes, as in a cutscene from Cinematic: Cutscenes or Cinematic: Director, and switches into film mode:
- Depth of field: it focuses on what's in the middle of the frame, with optional oval anamorphic bokeh.
- Motion blur: it follows the camera's speed. Instant cuts (like Director's Fwoosh) are detected and never smeared.
- Speed effects: on fast camera moves the edges darken and colors split slightly.
- Film grain, lens flare and raindrops on the lens.
Each of these can be set to Off / Cutscenes only / Always.
🌌 Nether & End
- Nether: thick fog in the colors of each biome, growing heavier and glowing warmer down toward the lava sea.
- End: a purple nebula with twinkling stars, purple light and shafts, and fog thickening into the void below the islands.
⚙️ Settings
Low / Medium / High profiles, plus separate menus for Lighting, Atmosphere, World, Rain, Camera and Cinema. Available in 11 languages: English, Türkçe, Deutsch, Français, Español, Português (BR), Русский, Polski, 日本語, 한국어 and 简体中文.
Recommended
Cinematic: Shader works on its own, but it's built for the rest of the family:
- Cinematic: Cutscenes for automatic cinematic moments.
- Cinematic: Director for building your own cutscenes.
Pair them, and every cutscene gets depth of field, motion blur and film grain automatically. 🎥
