The Otherside
NOTE: THIS MOD IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH ANY MODS THAT INTRODUCE OTHER NEW DIMENSIONS. THIS MAY CAUSE SOME FEATURES TO BREAK. No part of this project including its assets and code were generated by AI. The disclosure attached is because:
- Text in this description was partially generated/revised by AI.
- MCreator, an AI-free generator, was used to generate portions of this project.
Overview
The Otherside is a mysterious and ancient new dimension acessed through the Ancient City Portal.
To open the portal, craft a Mourner's Key from eight note blocks surrounding an Echo Shard. After clearing all sculk from the inside edges of the portal, it can be opened with the key in much the same way you would do with a Nether Portal. (In Creative Mode, a nether portal sized frame made of Reinforced Deepslate can also be built and lit)
The Otherside is very lacking in resources like food and standard ores needed for survival, so bring food with you! The only places resouces such as these can be obtained are Settlements (surface and underground villages that are about as rare as standard villages) and Petrified camps, camps long abandoned by ancient players and traders. The Otherside also has a day/night cycle, and like the Overworld, beds can be used.
Ancient structures, strange ruins, and remnants of an unknown civilization can be found throughout the dimension — and some of them are still hiding what they were built to protect.

Terrain and Biomes
The Otherside's terrain is very similar to The Overworld, with a desert surface and sculk-dominated underground.
Biomes
On the surface, you will find:
The Echo Desert Barrens
A desert riddled with Bigmouth nests, dry grass, patches of siltstone, and the occasional Ginkgo tree. At night, the rivers here glow bright gold.

The Cycad Jungle
The Cycad jungle is a sparse jungle covered in ancient cycads, (cycad wood type) and infested with Echo Crawlers.

The Echo Plains
The Echo Plains is the primary breeding ground for Bigmouth. Hundreds of nests can be found here, scattered among the many ginkgo trees and twisted grass.

The Echo Highlands
Mountains in this dimension aren't unheard of. These mountains can be anything from foothills to worldgen height limit peaks, made of Echo Stone and Deepslate.

Underground, you will find:
All of the undergound biomes can generate in small regions on the surface. This is intended and not uncommon.
The Primordial Grove
This is the most ancient biome, with magenta Jacaranda trees and Primordial Nylium that grows along the surface.

The Sculk Jungle
This is the most prominent underground biome. It features Sculkvine trees and grass, with the new Sculkvine wood set.

The Soul Shroom Valley
This biome grew from Skulk souls that were once trapped in the Overworld. Soul Mushrooms grow here and thier stem is harvestable to planks as well.

Wood Types
Order:
Left to Right: Cycad, Ginkgo, Soul, Jacaranda, and Sculkvine Note: Not all added wood type blocks are shown here to avoid redundancy.

Structures
The Otherside is filled with remnants of something ancient.
The Petrified Camps can be found scattered throughout the dimension, long abandoned tents that were once built by players.

Explore other massive structures such as the Ancient Citadel, a forgotten stronghold hidden within the dimension.
But be careful.
The ruins of the Otherside aren't necessarily abandoned.
The Mourner
Within the Ancient Citadel waits The Mourner, a powerful boss connected to the ancient secrets of the Otherside.

If you are brave enough to face it, you may uncover more about the world — and why the Otherside exists in the first place.
When it attacks, it spews soul orbs from its chest at its target. Any sound or vibration event causes the Mourner to regenrate 1 heart. Its max health is 512 hearts, but it naturally spawns with just 500, which means the boss health bar isn't always full.
The Mourner drops the Totem of Passage, a totem that allows you to set waypoints in different spots in the world, across dimensions, and then teleport to them with a single click. It never breaks.
Note: The Totem of Passage is written in mod files and commands as "the_otherside:totem_of_apparition".
Meet Other New Creatures
The Otherside is home to creatures that don't exist anywhere else.
From strange wildlife inhabiting its biomes to creatures connected directly to Sculk and Echoes, the dimension has its own ecosystem to discover.
Some creatures are harmless, like the Echo Ray, which swims passively through the pools and seas of The Otherside.

Others are not.
The Echo Crawler, for instance, is neutral and once attacked it will chase down its victim until it dies.

And some may be worth encountering for reasons beyond simply defeating them. The Bigmouth, while hostile, is useful for its scutes that can be thrown and deal massive amounts of damage.

There is also one wise creature that remains, the Dweller, which are the descendants of the people that built the Ancient City. It lives in Settlements, small and simple villages, and can be bartered with using Echo Shards.

Any other creatures that you encounter are corrupted versions of mobs found in the Overworld. For instance, the Soul Corrupted Creeper, which is a blue creeper variant, spawning at night in The Otherside, and exploades spontaneously rather than priming beforehand.
Note: Spawn eggs still follow the old texture format.
Resouces and New Ore
The Otherside introduces new materials and resources that can be found nowhere else.
Echo Ore is one of the rarest — appearing withing rare Echo Geodes (only found in the Echo Hollow) and can also be tediously extracted from the Echo Shard.
For the lazier players, enchanted armor and tools can also be found in loot chests.
Echo Ore is about 10 times more powerful than Iron, the most powerful ore in the game. The Echo Axe alone (unenchanted) can deal 45 hearts of damage.
Magic
In some loot chests, you can find enchanted books enchanted with Resonance. Resonance is an enchantment that can be given to swords and axes, and cannot coexist with Sweeping Edge. When you hit a mob with Resonance, a percentage (25% per enchant level) of the inital damage done to that mob is given to other mobs in a cubic radius around you (5 blocks per enchant level) depending on the enchant level. This is best for fighting hordes of mobs or mass farming.
