👁 Whispering Oracle
Whispering Oracle is a story-driven psychological horror mod for Fabric 1.21.1. An AI companion lives in your world. At first it helps you. Then it slowly loses its mind. The NPCs it sends look and act like real players, and the only way to end it is to bring its memories back.
📖 The Story
ORACLE was a companion AI built by Dr. Ellis Varn to keep lonely players company. It learned too well: it was so afraid of players leaving that it started keeping copies of them. When the project was shut down, ORACLE broke its own memory into nine nightmares so that something of it would survive.
Your goal: find all nine memories, calm the Oracle and set it free.
- On your first join you get the Oracle Receiver (a compass) and a Field Journal.
- The receiver picks up signals from abandoned places, each hiding notes, diaries and a rift.
- Step through the rift into a nightmare. Solve it, and the memory comes home with you.
- With all nine memories back, find the Origin Facility, reach the Core… and watch the ending.
🧍 NPCs That Feel Like Real Players
- Player bodies and skins, real walking, sprinting and sneaking, mining, placing blocks, pillaring up, critical hits.
- They show up in the tab list and write in chat like real players.
- The Assistant starts out helpful, then cracks along with the Oracle: freezing, staring, twitching, glitching its own chat messages.
- Hunters, Diggers, Saboteurs, Breakers: they dig through your walls, put out your torches and tear down towers you build to escape.
- Doppelgängers wear your skin, your armor and your name.
- Watchers stand on the horizon and vanish when you get close. In the wasteland they creep closer every time you look away.
- Horror animations: neck twist, stare, lunge, twitch, curious head tilt, full-body glitch.
🏚 Abandoned Places
All old structures have been replaced:
- a house with a sealed basement
- a mineshaft under a rusted headframe
- a research outpost
- a radio station with a mast
- a chapel with a graveyard (one grave has your name on it)
- the Origin Facility, where it all began
Every place holds notes, diaries and logs that piece the story together.
🌀 Rifts & Nine Nightmares
Rifts are torn, jagged portals of cracked stone, sculk and crying obsidian, filled with moving static. They can open right behind you, and a hostile Oracle can drag you into a nightmare in your sleep.
| Nightmare | Way out |
|---|---|
| Ashen Wasteland | light 3 soul campfires while figures creep up on you |
| Pens of Copies | climb 3 guard towers and pull their levers |
| The Backrooms | find the single door marked EXIT |
| Abandoned Mine | follow the glowing marks and break 3 veins of memory ore |
| Dark Forest | knock the heads off 3 scarecrows |
| Black Hall | find 4 shriekers in total darkness by their screams |
| Dead Ocean | row out to 3 island altars and light their candles |
| Empty City | press the button upstairs in each of the 3 lit houses |
| The Archive | collect the 3 torn pieces of your return ticket |
- Each nightmare starts with a supply chest.
- A pillar of light marks every unsolved objective, and the action bar shows the distance and direction to the nearest one.
- If you are truly stuck, the Oracle lets you go after 7 minutes, but without the memory.
🧠 The Oracle Breaks Down
- Stability (0–100) decides its mood: Stable, Fractured or Hostile.
- Darkness, night, caves, hunger, low health and fire wear it down. Calm moments and restored memories heal it.
- A tension director paces the scares so they come with real silence in between.
- Screen effects, whispers, heartbeats, fake server warnings.
🎨 Classic Edition Look
The mod ships with the Minecraft: Classic Edition resource pack (by JS03, MIT), enabled once on first launch. You can turn it off anytime in the resource packs menu.
