Looking to feel the consequence of fainting a Pokémon? Well W's Permadeath might be just what you're after!
W's Permadeath is a proof of concept datapack that releases your Pokémon from your party the instant it's health hits 0. Your Mudkip fell into lava? Gone. Turtwig challenged an enderman to a duel? Gone. Lost a high-stakes 6v6? All. gone.
W's Permadeath supports nicknamed and custom Pokémon. If it bleeds, it can kill it. Once a Pokémon hits 0 hp, the player is alerted via chat and audio.
This datapack is perfect for your next challenge run, nuzlocke, hardcore world, or YouTube video!
Disclaimer:
This is a very basic version of what I originally planned it to be. Turns out I am not good at this kind of stuff :). There are plenty of bugs and areas of improvements, all of which I will list below for transparency. You (yes, YOU!) are more than welcome to modify and redistribute the datapack as you please. However, if you would like to donate your time and datapacking experience to help improve the original project, hit my line, it would mean the world to me and you will be added as a contributor.
Known Issues:
- revives can be used mid-battle to keep using the Pokémon until the battle ends (and then gets deleted anyways). Pokémon that faint more than once sometimes drop items as if they were wild.
- multiplayer, while functional, will sometimes run mcfunctions for other players. I reccommend disabling the tellraw and playsound commands in each of the
slot#.mcfunctions to keep things from getting... noisy.
Future Updates (no promises)
- fix revive abuse
- fix multiplayer shenanigans
- add a "saving grace" mechanic where mons holding a totem of undying can use the item
- add a toggleable "health link" mode where player has as many hearts as party members. Full team wipe = death
- add a toggleable "soul link" mode where players can have their parties linked. (PlayerA loses slot3, so does PlayerB).
