[EOO] Experience Orb Optimizer
Do you have an XP farm in your world? Or perhaps you throw Enchanting Bottles so frequently that it takes a long time for the XP orbs to be absorbed by your character? If so, let me introduce you to the EOO Datapack.
EOO is a Minecraft Java Edition datapack designed to make XP farms with large numbers of experience orbs less cluttered. Instead of leaving many individual orbs scattered around, it automatically combines nearby orbs into fewer entities while preserving their total experience value.
The goal is simple: keep your XP farms running with fewer experience-orb entities to manage, without requiring a separate mod loader or changing the way you normally play Minecraft.
Features
- Automatic XP Orb Merging - Nearby experience orbs are automatically combined without requiring player input.
- Experience Preservation - The datapack calculates the combined experience value before merging orbs, helping ensure that their total XP is preserved.
- Three-Block Merge Radius - Orbs within a radius of 3 blocks can be combined when they meet the datapack's conditions.
- Periodic Processing - The datapack runs its merging cycle every 5 game ticks instead of repeating the full scan every tick.
- All Three Vanilla Dimensions - The processing cycle checks the Overworld, Nether, and End.
- Vanilla Datapack - No additional mod loader or external dependency is required.
- Start and Stop Controls - You can temporarily stop automatic merging and start it again using built-in commands.
How It Works

EOO runs automatically after the datapack loads.
Every 5 game ticks, it checks for experience orbs in the three vanilla dimensions. When nearby orbs are found, it calculates their combined experience value and consolidates eligible orbs into a surviving orb.
The surviving orb receives the combined XP value, and its age is reset so it does not immediately despawn because of its previous age. The datapack also accounts for existing stacked-orb counts where applicable and avoids merging candidates that would exceed the supported XP value limit.
This process repeats automatically while the datapack is running.

Please note: EOO reduces the number of XP-orb entities; it does not eliminate all entity processing overhead. Actual performance improvements depend on your farm design, the number of orbs, and your world's overall activity.
Installation
- Download the EOO
.zipfile. - Open your Minecraft world's
datapacksfolder. - Place the downloaded ZIP directly inside that folder. Do not extract it.
- Enter your world or run
/reload. - Run
/datapack listto verify that the datapack is enabled.
The datapack starts its automatic processing cycle when loaded.
Commands
Use these commands in-game if you need to control the datapack manually.
| Command | Description |
|---|---|
/function orb_smoother:stop |
Stops the automatic merging cycle. |
/function orb_smoother:start |
Starts the automatic merging cycle again. |
/reload |
Reloads datapacks and restarts the automatic cycle. |
You may need permission to use commands, depending on your single-player or server setup.
Compatibility
- Edition: Minecraft Java Edition
- Intended version range: Java Edition 1.15–26.3
- Dependencies: None
- Environment: Designed for single-player worlds and multiplayer servers
The included archive contains both legacy and modern function directory layouts to accommodate changes introduced in Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.
Compatibility status: The archive's metadata declares a broad version range, but the datapack has not been tested in live Minecraft instances across every listed version. Individual versions may require adjustments if their commands or data formats differ. Please test the datapack in your target version before using it in an important world or production server.
Technical Notes
- Only vanilla experience-orb entities are targeted.
- The merging radius is fixed at 3 blocks.
- The processing interval is fixed at 5 game ticks.
- XP totals are constrained by the supported signed-short value limit of 32,767.
- Candidates that would exceed the supported value limit are left untouched.
- The datapack does not teleport XP between distant locations or merge orbs across a farm.
Credits & Feedback
EOO is intended to provide a straightforward, lightweight approach to managing XP orb clutter using vanilla datapack functionality.

[DEVELOPER NOTE] This is NOT AI-Slop. it is handmade and initial version I have released for 1.15-26.3. Please verify whether the datapack actually functions on the listed version. If it does not, please provide me with feedback.
