New: Parallax Occlusion Mapping
Resource packs with LabPBR height maps now get real depth: mortar sinks between bricks, carvings and recesses look carved in, and the surface shifts as you move.
- The relief casts its own soft sun shadows, which spread with distance like real shadows.
- Recesses lose sky light, so the floors of cracks and carvings darken naturally.
- New options: Parallax Occlusion, Parallax Depth, Parallax Quality, Parallax Distance, Parallax Shadows, Parallax Shadow Softness, Parallax Occlusion Shading, Parallax Shading Radius.
- Raise Parallax Quality if you see stair-stepping at steep angles on 128x packs.
Better PBR materials
- Metals keep the colour the resource pack paints them. Copper, gold and iron no longer look pale.
- LabPBR metal types (iron, gold, copper, silver…) each get their own measured edge tint at grazing angles.
- Normal maps were upside down vertically, so raised details looked dented. Fixed for blocks, mobs and items.
- Material values now follow the LabPBR 1.3 standard exactly. Porous blocks like sand now get wet in rain properly instead of being treated as translucent.
Cleaner reflections
- Metal and glossy reflections are now full resolution: sharper ripples on normal-mapped metal, and no more sky bleeding over block edges.
- Reflections now include clouds, so metals no longer mirror a clear blue sky under an overcast one.
- Rough blocks (wood, concrete, satin and matte surfaces) no longer show a bright mirror of the sky, especially at low viewing angles. New option: Rough Reflection Cutoff.
- Rough metals keep their brightness instead of losing energy.
Exposure mod support
With the Exposure Aperture mod, holding up an Exposure camera now drives the shader's camera:
- The camera's aperture and focal length control depth of field.
- Shutter speed and aperture set the image brightness, like a real camera.
- Slow shutter speeds leave motion trails when you pan.
- The DSLR overlay shows the live f-number and shutter speed.
- Without the mod, or with no camera up, nothing changes.
Simpler settings menu
- Debug options are removed from the menu.
- Fog has its own short screen: Fog, Fog Density, Mist Amount, Fog in Rain, Storm Density, Underwater Fog Density, Underwater Light Shafts.
- Clouds now shows just Volumetric Clouds, Coverage, Density and Cloud Shadows.
- Advanced tuning options are hidden and keep their tuned defaults.
