This datapack adds [pseudo-] structures that contain plenty of ancient debris and some preserved netherite to the Nether!
The purpose of this pack is to give players the ability to find an abundance of netherite for uses such as building! Netherite blocks are quite palatable and can be used for builds, yet it takes so much mining to find enough just to make one block! These "ancient reserves" give you the opportunity to gather plenty!
"Is this balanced? Where do I find them?"
There is quite a lot of netherite to be crafted out of these geodes, and to compensate for that, it will be quite difficult to find them. The rarities are as follows:
-
Vanilla:
- 1/324 chance to attempt to spawn in a given chunk.
- Only spawns in Basalt Deltas.
-
Atmospheric Nether:
- 1/372 chance to attempt to spawn in a given chunk.
- Only spawns in Basalt Deltas, Volcanic Remnants, and Mantle.
-
Incendium:
- 1/340 chance to attempt to spawn in a given chunk.
- Only spawns in Basalt Deltas and Volcanic Deltas.
In all cases, these reserves spawn at any y-level below y: 20. These biomes are characterized by expanses of basalt and blackstone, making it more time-consuming to mine away in search of these. There is plenty of magma as well, so think twice before using automatic tunnel-bores.
If you would like to change the rarity, navigate to the "placed_feature" file. You will see a "chance" value, which is calculated as 1/("chance"). This value is what determines how likely the feature will spawn in a given chunk.
- To make them more common: Decrease the chance value.
- To make them more rare: Increase the chance value.
"How do these fit into the world?"
Below is the lore I designed while approaching how to make these ancient reserves and how they fit into the Nether. Before you decide whether to read it, I encourage you to experience it for yourself and come up with your own theories.
Lore
The ancient societies of the Nether consisted of master craftsmen and artisans of netherite. The great abundance of the material allowed even greater opportunities, but it was highly coveted by many. Entire societies stockpiled netherite to ensure their economic, military, and artisanal success. However, much of the world's netherite was lost to time as the metals corroded in the Nether's harsh atmosphere, lacking individuals to preserve them after the Great Societal Collapse. Other reserves were preserved or looted by contemporary piglins, further protected within their bastion remnants.
However, within the Nether's most volatile landscapes, some ancient reserves find a hospitable environment. Buried deep and locked away from the Nether's atmosphere, some blocks of netherite remain pristine within what was once a building, now eroded and fused by volcanic lava.
