Better Skies — a nicer sky, without a resource pack
Deeper sunsets, brighter stars and a blue night instead of a grey one. It runs on the server, so every player sees it and nobody installs anything.
Everything that looks like this is normally a resource pack: every player has to download it, and anyone who does not still sees the old sky. Since Minecraft 26.1 the day cycle lives in a data file the server sends to the client — so a datapack can do it for everyone at once.
What it changes
Read straight out of the pack, not claimed:
| vanilla | Better Skies | |
|---|---|---|
| Night brightness | 24 % | 34 % — dark, but you can still see what you build |
| Star brightness (peak) | 0.50 | 0.95 — nearly twice as bright |
| Sunset keyframes lit | 23 | 27 — the glow fades in earlier and lingers |
| Night sky colour | #000000 |
#141c36 — a deep blue night |
Everything else in the day cycle is left exactly as vanilla has it: the sun's path, the moon phases, villager schedules, mob spawning. Only the look changes.
Installation
Server
- Put the
.zipinto<level-name>/datapacks/ /reload, or restart
Singleplayer
- Put the
.zipinto.minecraft/saves/<world>/datapacks/ /reload
Works on a world you already play — it changes no world data.
Compatibility
- Minecraft 26.1, 26.2 and 26.3 — pick the download for your version
- Vanilla, Fabric, NeoForge, Paper, Purpur, Folia — it is a datapack
- Server-side only. Players install nothing.
- Mob spawning is untouched: the night is lit differently, not made safer.
FAQ
Is this a resource pack? No. That is the point. A resource pack has to be installed by every player; this runs on the server and reaches everyone.
Does it change gameplay? No. Only the visual tracks of the day cycle.
Can I remove it later?
Yes. Take the zip out and /reload; the sky goes back to vanilla.
Does it work in singleplayer?
Yes, the same way — drop it into the world's datapacks folder.
