CliffThree (CliffTree 3.0)
This update has been a long time coming! With this new major version, comes several key changes!
New add-on: ButterBee
The first major addition isn't technically part of the base CliffTree experience, but it is something I have been working hard on: Butterflies and Bees, or ButterBee for short!
ButterBee spices up CliffTree's ecosystems by adding new biome-dependant variants for chickens, cows, pigs, wolves, and even one new frog! This add-on will hopefully make exploration feel fresh, as you might discover new faces along your journey!

Oceans: Decorations & New Biome
While CliffTree has always had deeper oceans, not much has been done to make it feel different beyond that. With CliffThree, I attempt to address the general emptiness of oceans with some new additions:
-
New ocean biome, the Kelp Forest! With greenish water and sprawling with tall kelp, this biome can often be found bordering swamps.
-
Oceans now have several new decorations:
- Rock formations and clusters can be found in most oceans
- Sometimes, the rocks come in the form of scenic stone arches of various sizes
- Additionally, deeper oceans can have tall stone spires and plateaus
- Underwater bone formations can now be found. Very rarely, you can even find the skeletal remains of a large aquatic creature!
- Ocean ravines are larger, more common, and generate with magma, reminiscent of the ones present in older versions of the game
-
Several ocean biomes have been given exclusive decoration:
- Lukewarm oceans are now covered in vast spreads of tall seagrass
- Frozen oceans generate with clumps of basalt and magma
- Warm oceans have new additional coral crust formations, which can come in dense clusters, similar to ones found in Bedrock Edition. Small coral growths are now also color-coordinated with the coral block they are attached to.
Those are the major additions of CliffThree! Minor changes have also been done, such as:
- Fixed kelp not generating in some ocean biomes
- Altered the mob distribution of some biomes to accomodate for ButterBee
- Minor tweaks to some water colors to blend better between biomes
- Hopefully fixed a crash caused by tundra rocks
I hope you enjoy exploring CliffThree!
- Added support for 1.21.9 Snapshots (Fall Drop 2025)

Tectonic 3.0 native compatibility
- CliffTree now has native compatibility with Tectonic 3.0 if you're using their respective mod versions!
CliffTree Large Biomes & Amplified Enabler
- Starting with this version, Large Biomes and AMPLIFIED world types can now be enabled with 2 add-on datapacks, CliffTree Horizons and CliffTree Spires respectively.
Other Changes
- Regular hostile mobs can now spawn in Stone Oceans, allowing mob farms built on top of it to work
- Slightly increased how common Striped Wolves are in Wooded and Coniferous Badlands
- Glacier Valleys are now a mix of Snow Blocks and 1 block deep Powder Snow to ease traversal issues. Further tweaks for this biome are planned in the future
- Various CliffTree biomes now make use of common tags found in modloaders with hopes of improving compatibility
CliffTree 2.1.1
Minor update with slight tweaks and an incompatibility fix!
-
Updated feature order cycles to match changes in vanilla 1.21.5, this should prevent crashes with worldgen mods if they are compatible
-
Removed snowflake particles from all biomes except Frozen Caves
- This decision was made for the sake of immersion, as snowflake particles were able to spawn where it wouldn't logically snow such as indoors or underwater
- They are kept for Frozen Caves as they fit the biome's vision as a frosted cavern covered in ice dust
-
Glacier Valleys are now grouped with Snowy Slopes for the "Adventuring Time" advancement, only discovering one of either is required
- CliffTree already handles many biomes in groups for the sake of this advancement
- A rework of Glacier Valleys might be planned for the future to make it more engaging
