Longer Days — as a datapack, not a mod
Set how long the day and the night last — separately — and let the server remember it. Nothing to install for players.
Minecraft itself can slow the whole cycle down with /time rate 0.5. What it
cannot do is treat day and night differently. This pack does: it switches the
rate at sunrise and sunset, so you can have long days and normal nights.
Settings
Two numbers, in percent of normal speed. 50 = half speed = twice as long.
/scoreboard players set #day ld 50 the day passes at half speed
/scoreboard players set #night ld 100 the night stays normal
| What you want | #day |
#night |
|---|---|---|
| Everything twice as long | 50 | 50 |
| Everything three times as long | 33 | 33 |
| Long days, normal nights | 50 | 100 |
| Normal days, long nights | 100 | 50 |
| Long days, short nights | 50 | 200 |
| Back to vanilla | 100 | 100 |
The setting survives restarts and /reload. Set it once.
Why a datapack
Every other way to do this is a mod, and a mod has to be installed by every player or at least by the server and kept in step with the loader.
This is a datapack:
- Server-side only. Players install nothing and notice nothing except longer days.
- Works on Vanilla, Fabric, NeoForge, Paper, Purpur, Folia — it is a datapack, the loader does not matter.
- Works on an existing world. Drop it in and
/reload.
Installation
Server
- Put the
.zipinto<level-name>/datapacks/ /reload, or restart the server- Set
#dayand#nightas above — once
Singleplayer
- Put the
.zipinto.minecraft/saves/<world>/datapacks/ /reload
What it actually changes
The pack reads the day timeline every tick and, when the sun rises or sets,
applies your rate with the game's own /time rate. That means everything
that follows the clock stays in step — the sun, the moon phase, villager
schedules, pillager patrols. Nothing is faked or re-timed by hand.
Measured on real 26.1, 26.2 and 26.3 servers, against a vanilla run without the pack:
| vanilla | #day 50, #night 200 |
|
|---|---|---|
| daytime | 22.8 ticks/s | 11.5 ticks/s (0.50×) |
| night | 22.8 ticks/s | 45.7 ticks/s (2.00×) |
Compatibility
Minecraft 26.1, 26.2 and 26.3 — one file for all three.
FAQ
Does it work on a world I already play? Yes. Unlike a worldgen pack, this one can be added at any time.
Do players need to install anything? No. Server-side only.
Can I go back to normal?
/scoreboard players set #day ld 100 and the same for #night.
Why not just /time rate?
Because that applies one factor to the whole cycle, and you would have to type
it again after every restart. This pack keeps day and night apart and applies
your setting automatically.
