Do you think that Minecraft is better experienced by discovering every crafting recipe by yourself and that the Recipe Book ruins the experience by giving away all the recipes in the world when you collect an item from the ground? Worry not, with this datapack you won't have to worry about getting spoilers!
This datapack changes the recipe book to only show a recipe when you craft the corresponding item, if you smelt your first iron, for example, you won't unlock the flint and steel recipe, but you'll also have to find flint and craft it, only then you will be able to see the recipe in the book.
If you already have started a world and you want to use the datapack, open your world to LAN enabling cheats (if you don't have them already enabled) and use the command /recipe take your_username *
to delete all your unlocked recipes, this way you will start fresh!
I created this pack because of a Twitch streamer that started playing the game blind, and he refused to use the book in order to have the most immersive experience. I thought "Wait, there are no mods that make the recipe book show only what you already crafted?" and to my disbelief no one made something similar! So I learnt how to create datapacks and here we are.
This datapack is fully open source, on GitHub you can find the script I created to automate the process and the instructions to port the datapack to your desired version. You are freely allowed to make your own version of the datapack for every version of the game that you wish for and upload them online (you don't have to give me credit, but if you do I will appreciate it :)
Note: this is for the vanilla game, if you want to use it with another datapack you'll have to convert the datapack's recipes with the script on GitHub.
