Welcome
Welcome to Origin Superpowers or OSP for short. OSP is a datapack that overhauls the origins mod in its entirety, adding 60 superpowers for you to acquire. Upon joining the game, you will receive a random superpower from that pool of 60. These superpowers are categorized into five rarities, affecting the chances of obtaining a specific rarity. Before we get into it, i must note this datapack is balanced for servers, and multiplayer. There is a few powers that do not work, and are useless in single player.
-
Common: Early game superpowers, somewhat useful but not as potent as the ones above. They may have upgraded versions in higher rarities or be somewhat limited in scope with downsides. Still, they can impact end-game scenarios when used strategically. There are 13 powers in this rarity.
-
Uncommon: The next level up, mostly early game but still useful. Some are improved commons, while others are new and special. Some can even counter higher-level abilities, and they are generally very effective. However, they may be limited in scope or have caveats. There are 13 powers in this rarity.
-
Rare: The next level up, featuring more potent powers capable of impressive feats. Some are less specific than lower tiers, while others are more powerful but limited in scope. There is a variety within this rarity, comprising 13 powers.
-
Epic: Where most players will end up after working hard. These powers are very potent and versatile, often with multiple uses and complexities. While some may have limited scope, they excel in their specific roles. There are 13 powers in this rarity.
-
Eldritch: The pinnacle rarity, reserved for the 1% of players. These powers can impact the entire server effortlessly. However, only a set number of players can possess an Eldritch at any given time in a Minecraft world, and each Eldritch is unique, designed with a specific playstyle in mind. This makes them unsuitable for everyone, requiring players to adapt or be prepared for the associated playstyle. There are 8 powers in this rarity.
Getting New Superpowers!
Upon your first game entry, you have an 80% chance for a common power and a 20% chance for an uncommon power. All powers within each rarity have an equal chance of being obtained, unless a power has reached its limit for the number of players who can possess it. As a result, it's impossible to acquire all superpowers this way. So, how can you obtain better powers?
Power Crystals
Power Crystals fall from the sky at random. They fall more in the end. You can also craft power crystals! One method is using the dragon egg as a catalyst, with end crystal, and dragon's breath. Another with end crystal and dragon's breath alone, but less effective.
When you use a Power Crystal, you have these chances at each rarity:
- Common 5%
- Uncommon 20%
- Rare 30%
- Epic 5%
- Eldritch 0%
Elder Power Crystals
You may have noticed the absence of Eldritch in those chances. To obtain an Eldritch power, you need to upgrade the crystal. This can be done by clicking on the Power Crystal with an upgrade item within an inventory (similar to putting an item inside a bundle). There are two upgrade items: The Dragon egg(reuses) and Nether Stars. This can be edited via tags. When you use an Elder Crystal, you have these chances at each rarity:
- Common 0%
- Uncommon 0%
- Rare 25%
- Epic 50%
- Eldritch 25%
Combating Eldritch Powers
However, a challenge arises. What if all the Eldritch powers are taken, and you desire one? There is a solution: disable powers. When a player's power is disabled, the magical aspect ceases to function, while the physical part continues to work. For instance, shooting fire would be considered magic, while having wings sprout from your back would be deemed physical. When any power is disabled, and that player is killed by another, there is a 25% chance they will lose their power. Certain superpowers can disable others, and there is also an item - the Anti-Power Crystal. Crafted by clicking on an Echo Shard with an Elder Power Crystal, this item, when in your inventory, disables your own power and those of players within a small radius. Attacking a player with an Anti-Power Crystal in hand results in a temporary disablement. Furthermore, if you place on on a beacon, via a item frame, it will create a AOE equal to the beacons effect radius. If you ever need an Eldritch power and someone else possesses the one you want or all slots are taken, you can eliminate them while they are disabled. This method also serves as a means to counter the powerful Eldritch powers.
End & Credits
That concludes all the information I'll provide for free, as mystery is a part of the pack. Questions like "What powers are there?", "Can anyone combat my power effectively?", and "What is that player's power?" are meant to be left unanswered, enhancing the fun.
Additionally, this datapack features an addon API, enabling you to add new powers to the game via addon datapacks. Tutorials will be available soon.
The pack offers excellent admin tools and settings if you are running this on your server. To view them, be in creative mode and run /trigger op_menu. Through this menu, you can edit the limits of each power and rarity, disable powers or rarities you dislike, and view who possesses which power. It also provides tools to manage various aspects. You can even create addon datapacks that modify the item used to upgrade Elder Crystals, change the chances for each rarity for each method (joining, Power Crystal, Elder Crystal), and much more.
Anyway, enjoy my datapack. Visit my discord to inquire about the datapack, engage in discussions, report bugs, or play on my OSP testing server. I started this datapack many months ago and have been working on it for a while. I hope you enjoy it and create cool things with it.
