Remnant Sky aims to balance the challenge of a void-only Skyblock world with the freedom of choice and exploration of Minecraft's vanilla generation.
If it doesn't look like Skyblock when you begin your world, that's probably because you've gotten a spruce tree instead of an oak tree--or cherry, mangrove, poplar... even a 2x2 tree. Your spawn platform is chosen based on the biome your vanilla seed spawns you in. And from there, things diverge even more. "Remnants" of a shattered world float in the void, far enough that you'll have to work to get there, but close enough that there's always something new on the horizon.
These Remnants will offer you the chance at branching progression. Building the mob farm in the sky is always an excellent choice, but if you have the blocks to escape, you can find all of the vanilla game's loot scattered to the winds.
Remnant Sky is designed to be challenging and force you to consider Minecraft's mechanics and generation for full progression, but it isn't as grindy and punishing as some of the "purist" void adaptations. Meanwhile, the game will not hand you resources like other variations do, so you'll need to decide your own path.
By taking inspiration from a structures-only world, and carefully preserving enough "pieces" of vanilla generation, the pack's goal is harness the Skyblock experience while maintaining the joy of exploration. Archaeology and armor trims are intact. Netherite gear is an achievable goal. Mining for ores is no longer a focus--but still possible. And while some resources that might be plentiful in a normal world are now rare, they are all obtainable, while staying true to vanilla mechanics.
- 39 possible spawn platforms, based on your starting biome (sapling rates have been increased slightly for jungle, dark oak, and pale oak to minimize softlock potential).
- Where a structure would generate in the equivalent vanilla seed, it will generate a portion of it in the void.
- All 3 dimensions are void only, but Remnants can be found in all 3.
- A small companion pack will be available that adds some selected tweaks to biome colors to enhance the experience. For example, placing grass in Nether/End or cave biomes offers new tints, while the Deep Dark gains a thicker fog.
