What's this?
It's an implementation of the Hermitcraft-style mini hardcore series premise "Revival Life" suggested in Lazmira's video "3 Ideas for Life Series S6".
How does it work
When you die, you'll drop your head and become a spirit(basically you get put into spectator mode). Your head will not despawn, get burned or removed in any other way until someone picks it up. To make it easier to find, it will also glow and emit soul particles and sounds from time to time. When your head is placed on the altar, a life will be removed from the pool and you'll be revived. When the last life in the pool is gone, only one more revival is possible. After that, if you die, you'll be eliminated as there is no way for you to respawn. Also, players that aren't logged in can't be revived. Spawn protection is not necessary but recommended as non-admin players can't remove or place lives.
How to set up
- Build something at X: 0, Z: 0 with no blocks above it
- Add lives by running
/function revival_life_ui:place_life
or running
/function revival_life_ui:main_menu
and clicking "Add Life", converting the block below you into a single life. Repeat this step for every life you want to be in the pool. By default, the block representing a life is water, but you can replace it with anything you want. And no, not every water block in the world is a life.
Also, I recommend you check out
/function revival_life_ui:main_menu
Since this is a datapack using only vanilla commands and resources(sounds, particles, etc.) you only need to install it on the server and players will be able to join using a vanilla client.
