Shield Progression changes how shields work in the game, making the base shield overall weaker, but adding the ability to upgrade it with the standard upgrade tier materials in the game. The upgrades apply the materials to the shield in place of a banner pattern as a "front-plate", taking the impacts and damage of attacks and increasing durability, as well as some additional perks
Shields by default can be crafted entirely with wood and sticks, not requiring iron, so they can be crafted within a minute of starting a world. However, these shields are MUCH WEAKER than what you're used to.
SHIELD STATS
- Wooden Shield (Base shield): 250 Durability, blocks up to 5 damage, 5 second disable time
- Shield (Copper material): 400 Durability, blocks up to 10 damage, 4 second disable time
- Shield (Iron material): 450 Durability, blocks up to 20 damage, 3 second disable time
- Shield (Gold material): 350 Durability, blocks all damage, 2 second disable time
- Shield (Diamond material): 700 Durability, blocks all damage, 1 second disable time
- Shield (Netherite material): 800 Durability, blocks all damage, cannot be disabled
NOTES PLEASE READ
Only the regular weak shield is able to have banner patterns, the upgrades cannot have banner patterns. There was no way to work around this while still keeping this system. Therefore, I recommend this pack to those who care more about progression and balance than cosmetic and visuals. On the plus side, you can fool players by making banner patterns that look like the upgrades, and they might overestimate you and try to avoid fighting.
When repairing with crafting, any two shields will result in a regular shield, but it will be fully repaired. This was yet another workaround to make the whole system work well.
