Survival Almanac — Data Pack for Minecraft Java
Survival Almanac is a vanilla data pack (no mods, no resource pack needed) that adds a calendar system with daily activities to Minecraft Java Edition. It works in singleplayer and on servers. One file supports Minecraft 1.21 – 26.3.
What it does
The pack tracks a 120-day calendar year: 4 seasons of 30 days, each split into 3 sub-seasons of 10 days. Every in-game morning it shows the current date (season, day of the season, year), tonight's moon phase (8 phases), today's Omen — 1 of 12 daily modifiers that applies to the whole server — and your current quests.
- Quests: 3 slots (Daily, Side, Weekly) drawn from a pool of 36 quests, with 5 rarity tiers that scale the target and the point reward. One free reroll per day. If you reach at least 50% of a quest target by the next morning, you still earn half the points.
- Points, Ranks and shop: completing quests earns Almanac Points. Points buy experience bottles, fireworks, reroll and skip tokens, a random enchanted book, and a decorative keepsake item. Ranks 1–5 unlock an extra daily reroll and a shop discount. The shop does not sell diamonds, netherite, or elytra.
- Special moons: the first full moon of each season has an extra effect. Bloom Moon: crop and sapling growth speed is increased for that night only (the randomTickSpeed game rule is restored at dawn). Blood Moon: combat quests pay double points and some mobs are stronger in the Classic and Hardcore presets. Harvest Moon: every online player receives a food gift at dusk. Frost Moon: all players get night vision for the night.
- Festivals: 8 events on fixed calendar dates with a small keepsake item. Festival trials can also be finished during a 3-day Encore period after the date, at half points.
- Streaks: a streak only counts days you were actually online. Streak Freeze items (you can hold up to 2) cover a missed day. New players have 30% lower quest targets for their first 7 active days.
- Party Quest: on multiplayer servers, one quest per day has a shared goal for all players.
- Almanac menu: on Minecraft 1.21.6 or newer, the menu is a set of Dialog screens opened from the pause menu. On older versions, the same menu appears as clickable chat messages. Vanilla dialogs cannot display live values, so quest progress and point totals are printed to chat when you open the corresponding page; the dialog buttons work normally.
- Chronicle and records: the pack keeps a short history of notable days in the world, your personal statistics, and a small advancement tree.
- Per-player settings: HUD on/off, sound on/off, quiet mornings, creator mode, reduced effects.
- Admin presets (OP only): Cozy (no mob strengthening), Classic (default), Hardcore (stronger effects).

Notes for server owners
On startup, the server log can show up to three Failed to load function almanac:sys/... lines. This is expected: Minecraft 26.x changed the /time command syntax (26.1) and renamed some game rules, so the pack contains both variants of the affected functions. Each version loads the variant it understands; the others are never used. Gameplay is not affected. The pack was tested on vanilla 1.21.1, 1.21.6 and 26.3 servers.
Performance: the pack does its work at dawn, on a 1-second scheduler, and when players use a command. It does not scan entities every tick.
