Wanderer's Broom

A rustic flying broom for Minecraft Java Edition 26.3. Made of a plain branch, golden straw bound with jute twine, and a small green travel charm.

Craft it, set it down in mid-air, hop on side-saddle and fly wherever the road takes you.

Features

  • Craftable with a Hay Bale, an Ender Pearl and a Stick
  • Place it anywhere, even in mid-air, 2 blocks in front of you at waist height
  • Side-saddle riding: your character sits sideways on the broom while flying
  • Simple controls: movement keys to fly, Jump to rise, Sprint to descend, Sneak to get off
  • Responsive: about 2.5x sprint speed, stops the moment you let go
  • No fuel, no height limit, stops when you bump into a block
  • Soft landing: a few seconds of slow falling after you get off
  • Your broom is yours: only the player who placed it can ride it or pick it up
  • Multiplayer ready, works with or without cheats
  • Compatible: everything lives in its own namespace, no vanilla files replaced

Crafting

Place a Hay Bale, an Ender Pearl and a Stick side by side in one row of a crafting table. Any row works, and the order can be mirrored. The recipe unlocks when you pick up any of the ingredients.

Installation

This project needs both files from the download:

  1. Data pack: put it in your world's datapacks folder (or add it when creating the world).
  2. Resource pack: put it in .minecraft/resourcepacks and enable it.

On a server, put the data pack in world/datapacks and share the resource pack with your players (for example as the server resource pack).

Good to know

  • While flying, a stand-in body wearing your skin sits on the broom and your real player is invisible. Armor and held items stay with your invisible player, slightly in front of the stand-in body.
  • In first person you can see the stand-in body when you look down or behind you.
  • The broom is a Carrot on a Stick with a custom model. Other packs that react to any Carrot on a Stick use may also notice it.

Uninstalling

Run /function wanderers_broom:uninstall once before removing the data pack (needs cheats or operator permission).
