AEP (Adaptive Entity Prioritization)
AEP is a lightweight, server-side performance optimization mod designed to automatically manage and reduce load caused by entity ticking and physics.
Unlike blanket optimizations, AEP uses an adaptive throttling system. The mod only steps in to reduce work when the server needs it—primarily during periods of high server load (high MSPT/TPS drops). When the server runs smoothly, entities and item stacks behave normally.
When the server strains, AEP selectively and temporarily slows down the tick rate for:
- Mob AI: Pathfinding and general behavior ticks for non-player entities are throttled (mobs might only tick once every few game ticks).
- Item Merging: The process of item entities searching for nearby stacks to merge with is throttled, reducing physics checks.
AEP uses high mixin priority to apply its throttling logic before the corresponding vanilla methods run, making it effective at reducing server work immediately upon detection of lag.
🛑 IMPORTANT COMPATIBILITY NOTE
AEP is NOT COMPATIBLE with Lithium.
Both AEP and Lithium patch the same core server loops. Lithium's advanced optimizations will completely override and disable AEP's logic, rendering AEP ineffective, and crashing Minecraft. For the best performance, do not run AEP alongside Lithium.
