Ashen World

Ashen World is a NeoForge mod focused on radiation, mutations, survival, and post-apocalyptic exploration in Minecraft.

Radiation is a persistent threat throughout the world. Contaminated environments, dangerous fluids, radioactive materials, and irradiated biomes can expose players to increasing levels of radiation. Managing that exposure is an important part of surviving the wasteland.

But radiation doesn't only make you sick. Prolonged exposure can change you.

Development Update

Ashen World is currently being developed beyond its initial 1.0 release.

The next update is focused on expanding the systems already established in 1.0 while adding more reasons to explore, survive, and interact with the wasteland.

Current Development

• Expanding the mutation system
• Refining radiation and survival mechanics
• Expanding world generation and exploration
• Adding new equipment, consumables, and FEV-related content
• Improving existing systems and fixing bugs
• Improving compatibility with other mods and modpacks

The next update is still in development, so features and mechanics may change before release. There is currently no confirmed release date.

Radiation

Radiation can come from a variety of sources throughout the world, including contaminated environments, irradiated fluids, radioactive blocks, and certain biomes.

Radiation persists rather than simply disappearing over time, meaning players need to actively manage their exposure.

As radiation builds up, its effects become more severe and can eventually lead to mutations.

Mutations

Radiation can cause permanent changes to the player.

Mutations are more than simple status effects. They can provide powerful advantages while introducing new drawbacks and changing how you approach survival.

There are multiple types of mutations with different effects, and some mutations can interact with one another in unexpected ways.

Exactly what radiation can do to you is something you'll have to discover for yourself.

Gene Inspector

The Gene Inspector is a handheld device used to examine your current condition.

It provides information about your radiation, mutations, and other aspects of your character's altered state.

Radiation Treatments

Surviving the wasteland requires more than avoiding radiation.

Players can craft and use a variety of treatments and protective equipment, including:

• RadAway — removes accumulated radiation
• Rad-X — reduces radiation exposure
• Hazmat Armor — provides protection against radiation
• Decontamination Arch — rapidly removes radiation from players

Chem Station

The Chem Station is a dedicated crafting station for producing medical supplies, radiation treatments, and other specialized items.

Its recipes can be viewed through JEI when JEI is installed.

World Generation

Ashen World adds a variety of wasteland environments designed to make exploration feel dangerous and unfamiliar.

Current world content includes:

• Irradiated, scorched, frozen, and toxic biome variants
• Custom terrain and vegetation
• Custom wood sets and block families
• Irradiated Water and Toxic Sludge
• Radiation Crystal formations
• Custom building and decorative blocks
• Vanilla structures within custom biomes
• A custom Ashen World world preset for a complete post-apocalyptic experience

Compatibility

JEI is optional and provides recipe browsing for the Chem Station.

Radiation rates, mutation thresholds, equipment effectiveness, loot weights, and other gameplay values can be configured through ashenworld-common.toml.

Ashen World is designed to work as the foundation for Fallout-inspired modpacks while remaining usable as a standalone survival experience.

Current Status

Ashen World has reached its initial 1.0 release, establishing the core radiation, mutation, survival, and world-generation systems.

Development is continuing with new content, balance changes, bug fixes, and compatibility improvements. The mod is still actively evolving, and some gameplay and world-generation elements may change between versions.
