Changes
Features
- Tooltips on saplings and seeds with unusual growing rules (nether sakura and anchor tree hang from a ceiling, sakura needs ~30 blocks below, gloomwood 12 above, 2x2 willow, stalagnate reach, wart seed on soul sand)
- Wild Waystones now generate in BetterNether biomes
- Armor trims now show on the inventory icons of cincinnasite, nether ruby and flaming ruby armor (BetterNether#156)
Changes
- BetterNether saplings take bone meal like vanilla (45% per use, about 4-5 per tree instead of ~32; giant mold and jellyfish mushroom saplings 40% like mushrooms); natural growth is unchanged
- Every block of a felled mushroom fir drops a mushroom fir stem, caps drop a sapling by chance (20%)
- BetterNether biomes are slightly more common (x1.25) than vanilla Nether biomes and biomes of other mods
- Nether cities no longer write their bounding box to the log
- Nether city caves only keep fortresses and bastions intact again; small structures in a city cave are carved instead of floating in the air
- Block models are bound through WorldWeaver model keys instead of client-only lambdas
- Upgrade bundled structure templates to the 26.1 data format
- Nether cities no longer generate where a bastion would overlap them
- Warn at startup when old blocks/items/mobs config files try to disable entries, which is no longer supported (BetterNether#254, BetterNether#104, BetterNether#171)
- Remove unused texture references from block models
- A Fireruby pickaxe with Silk Touch no longer smelts ores; it drops the ore block like any Silk Touch pickaxe (BetterNether#168)
Fixes
- The pig statue showed its spawn point messages twice
- Willow, mushroom fir and stalagnate trunks are logs now, so tree-felling mods (FallingTree) find them and leaves next to them do not decay
- Anchor trees no longer grow into Nether city buildings
- Nether city caves hollowed out BetterNether portals and other structures they overlapped
- The pig statue's "hold 4 glowstone" hint could not be shown on a dedicated server and showed the raw item id
- Stalagnate seeds and wart seeds had no cutout render layer (opaque background on 1.21.x)
- Fireflies created with /summon were always white
- Re-running the 5.3.5 world patch made naturally generated willow, rubeus, anchor tree and nether sakura leaves persistent, so felled trees no longer decayed (BetterNether#97)
- BetterNether item tags showed as untranslated, their names used the outdated tag.betternether.* key format
- Light Blue Framed Quartz Glass and Pane had garbled names
- Dedicated servers no longer crash at startup
- Chains in lava pyramids, and blocks in room_01, were placed as air
- Cincinnasite and bone buttons were missing from #minecraft:buttons
- Pots were missing from #minecraft:flower_pots
- Black, blooming and gloomsculk vines dropped two of themselves with shears or silk touch
- Nether city caves hollowed out bastions and fortresses they overlapped
- Blocks can be placed on, and mobs can stand on, plants in BetterNether pots, like on leaves (BetterNether#85)
- Removed the empty placeholder Patchouli book that caused "Failed to load book" errors (BetterNether#286, BetterNether#198, BetterNether#164)
- A giant anchor tree grown from saplings below Y 3 used up the saplings and placed nothing (BetterNether#294)
- Willow torches gave no light and didn't break when water flowed into them (BetterNether#55)
- Vanilla seeds could not be planted on Nether farmland (BetterNether#38)
- Rubeus trees almost never grew cones, and their leaves never decayed when the tree was felled (BetterNether#97)
- Jellyfish mushroom saplings could be planted on BetterEnd terrain (BetterNether#118)
- Anchor trees grew through the buildings of nether cities (BetterNether#142)
- BetterNether grasses could not be replaced by placing a block into them like vanilla grass (BetterNether#166)
- Cincinnasite shears cut leaves, wool, vines and cobwebs no faster than a hand, so Efficiency did nothing (BetterNether#181)
- BetterNether pickaxes, swords, axes and spears were missing tags their vanilla counterparts have (BetterNether#197)
- Agave rendered in the translucent layer, so leaves went missing from some angles (BetterNether#211)
- Molds, moss cover and hook mushrooms spread without limit because their neighbour count never increased
- Hook mushrooms never spread on their own (BetterNether#54)
- BetterNether bookshelves didn't count as enchanting power for other mods or through replaceable blocks (BetterNether#216)
- Removed broken quartz glass pane models whose parent models did not exist (BetterNether#204)
- Feather fern growth stages showed the full-grown leaf textures
- Cincinnasite bars were treated as translucent and caused sorting issues (BetterNether#218)
- The fog density option had no effect and is now hidden (BetterNether#175, BetterNether#131)
- Cincinnasite chairs, taburets and bar stools dropped nothing when mined with a pickaxe, but dropped with an axe
- Mining nether gold ore with a Fireruby pickaxe gave nuggets instead of a gold ingot (BetterNether#248)
- Fireruby auto-smelting dropped no XP for ores with fractional smelting XP, like quartz and iron (BetterNether#167)
- Shearing whispering gourd vines didn't wear the shears or keep the vine's shape, and broken vines dropped the wrong things (BetterNether#84)
- Whispering gourd lanterns dropped nothing when broken (BetterNether#84)
- Eye plant stalk stayed behind as a bare vine after its eyeball was gone (BetterNether#153, BetterNether#159, BetterNether#179)
- Gloomwood transition planks dropped nothing when broken
- Bone reed and bone cincinnasite doors dropped nothing when broken
- Soul lily saplings dropped nothing when broken
- Moss cover dropped nothing when broken
- Hook mushrooms dropped nothing with any tool (BetterNether#227)
- Giant Lucis mined with a silk-touch axe dropped two instead of one (BetterNether#226)
- Mob spawners set with a BetterNether spawn egg spawned nothing when other entities were nearby (BetterNether#281)
- Nether spears had no English names
- Weeping Obsidian's name started with a space (BetterNether#180)
- Japanese and Polish translations failed to load because of JSON syntax errors (BetterNether#283, BetterNether#207)
- Copper golems ignored BetterNether's wooden chests (BetterNether#311)
- Thin armor option broke player armor rendering with 3D Skin Layers (BetterNether#313)
- Biome ids broke on systems with a Turkish locale (BetterNether#285)

Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
