Updated to 26.3
As you might expect if you're familiar with BFB, there were quite a few implications of the Dappled Forest's existence.
-
Removed Autumnal Forest and Yellow Birch trees
The code still exists, so your existing ones aren't going anwhere (though Yellow Birch will essentially be renamed to Poplar), but new ones will no longer spawn. In its place, I've made some extensive modifications to the Dappled Forest...
-
Overhauled the Dappled Forest and its contents:
-
Poplar trees are now only yellow
- Poplar saplings will always grow into yellow poplar trees
- Yellow poplar leaves are renamed to just "Poplar Leaves"
-
Red Poplar and Orange Poplar trees are replaced with Maple and Beech respectively
- Poplar, Maple, and Beech will all use the vanilla Poplar textures, but if you want the old pre-26.3 BFB ones back, you can get a resource pack for them here.
The trees and their spawns are identical to the poplars, but now they have their own woods. The nice side effect of this is removing the RNG from farming the leaves, since each colour has its own tree and sapling.
-
Replaced Dappled Forest top ground layer with Humus Grass
Everyone wanted the unique grass colour to be transplantable, and I did too. So now it is. It's functionally identical to grass, but it keeps its orange-y colour no matter where you put it.
-
Additions to the Dappled Forest
-
Fallen Maple and Beech trees
-
Sweet Berry patches
-
Pumpkin patches
-
Fallen leaf patches
-
Removed leaf litter and replaced it with more fallen leaves
I largely wanted the merge to be purely additive, but this felt appropriate. One really cool side effect is that trees should see a larger concentration of the corresponding colour of fallen leaves around their bases.
-
Dappled Forest now spawns Rusty wolves
-
I had plenty of time to think about how best to handle this, and I hope people are happy with what I've landed on. Keeping both just seemed redundant, and aside from the much-maligned issues with the generation sizes of the Dappled Forest, I think this should combine the best of both worlds, and still feel familiar to people who are used to the Autumnal Forest.

-
Added Poplar Bookshelf
-
Added Poplar Hedge
-
Added Fallen Poplar Leaves
-
Pine and Cedar leaves no longer emit particles
Mojang's tweak to Spruce made sense, so now BFB's evergreen trees are evergreen too.
-
Bamboo and Coconut Thatch blocks can now be composted
-
Tweaked Thatch block textures to match the new symmetrical vanilla Hay texture
-
Fallen leaf, thatch rug, and Ashen Carpet blocks are now washed away by fluids
To be honest, I never realised this wasn't already the case
-
Changed all Autumnal Forest advancements to require completion in the Dappled Forest (and made one small addition)
-
Poplar Hedge is now required for Hedging Your Bets advancement
-
Poplar Bookshelf is now required for Great Library advancement
Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
