Chao Garden Mod 1.0.16
The Chao Hub update. A shared island everyone can visit, with a Kindergarten, a clinic, an Adoption Centre, a fortune teller and a race desk. Plus Chao Karate, three new forms, 38 new evolutions, hats, and Chao that play together.
🏝️ The Chao Hub
A floating island under a glass dome, shared by everyone on the server. Every island now has a green portal that takes you there, and the Hub's blue portal takes you home. Nothing in the Hub can be broken or built on.
- Omochao pootles round the fountain giving hints. He also sets one task a day, the same for everyone: bring him one of your own Chao that fits (a high skill, a karate belt, a particular kind of grown-up, a good age...) for 15 to 25 emeralds, once a day.
- Miss Hana's Chao Kindergarten. Leave a Chao for a day and it comes back having learned a new routine and some skill levels. She plays with the pupils over the fence. There's no early pickup, and while it's there your Chao PC marks it At Kindergarten. A Chao left for 3 days walks home by itself.
- Professor E. Gadd's clinic. His patient charts read out everything the Crystal Scanner does.
- Madame Chao, the Fortune Teller. Three paid readings: what your Chao will evolve into, what eggs two of your Chao would have (with the real odds), and what your Chao is longing for right now.
- Holly's Chao Adoption Centre. Three Chao wait for a home, new ones every 3 in-game days. They can be children, grown-ups of any evolution, or even transformed. A child costs 1,500 to 3,000 emeralds, a grown-up 6,000 to 10,000 and a transformed Chao 8,000 to 15,000. Your new Chao is waiting by your island's portal when you get home.
- Rex's race desk. Talk to him to enter the Chao Races from the Hub, no PC needed.
- A notice board by the portal: who's online, the latest race winners, the karate champion, the Black Market's special and Omochao's task.
- The Black Market has a stall with its own daily stock, and the Hall of Fame honours the best karate Chao, with the Sensei walking its halls.
- Visitors drift in and out through the portal, other players and their Chao, so it never feels empty.
- A pond garden with a waterfall, a picnic glade with a gazebo, a fountain plaza, and walkable hills round the edge.
- The Hub updates itself when the mod does. Nothing is lost when it does, and Chao at Kindergarten stay put.
🥋 Chao Karate
A karate career for every Chao, entered from the Chao PC's new Karate site and fought in its own dojo.
- Four tournaments (Beginner, Intermediate, Expert, Master) earn the Yellow, Blue, Red and Black belts, each with a best-of-three final and a promotion test with the Sensei.
- 50 moves, from Palm Strike up to Meteor Kick and the Chao Cyclone, each with its own hit reaction. Your Chao's Power decides which it knows.
- Entrance walk-outs, opponents with their own quirks, and your Chao's friends cheering from the crowd.
- VS mode against another player's Chao, ChaoBet on fights, and a Watch tab for anyone to spectate.
- Belts, a gi and karate trophies to win and wear, a karate diary, favourite moves that run in families, garden sparring and a Dojo Gong that lines your karate Chao up to bow.
- Lose three in a row and a Chao is sore for a day: a plaster on its cheek, slower, and napping more.
🧬 New forms
- Ditto Chao. A shapeshifter like the Slime Chao: it can turn into mobs and be worn as armor, and learns more the more Ditto DNA it eats.
- Veemon Chao and Terriermon Chao. Each has its own look, walk and idle animations, and sees off monsters with its own move. Keep feeding them their DNA. They're hiding something, and their Special menu shows how close they are to finding out.
- Their DNA comes from the Chao Shop, the Hub's Black Market, and race and karate prizes. With Cobblemon, beating a Ditto drops Ditto DNA too.
✨ 38 new evolutions
- Four more Hero Power and Dark Power looks, and five Hero and five Dark looks each for Run, Crafting and Building.
- Crafting and Building now shape evolutions, like Swim, Fly, Run and Power.
- The thin Hero and Dark wings on the existing looks have been rebuilt with depth.
🎩 Clothes & hats
- A new Clothes button on the Chao menu, with 27 hats, including the full Sonic Adventure 2 set (Egg Shells in every egg colour, Wool Beanies, the Pumpkin, Skull, Bucket, Cardboard Box and more), a Straw Hat and Goku Hair. Hats are only sold in the Chao Shop.
- Hats stay on through the PC and rebirth. Hat, gi and belt are separate slots, so a Chao can wear all three.
🤝 Chao playing together
- When two Chao meet, they now act it out face to face: 30 routines, from High Fives, Hugs and a Secret Handshake to making up with a Pinky Promise, or arguing with a Stare-Down and a Slap Fight.
🍓 New fruit & feeding
- Rose Fruit sets a Chao that's old enough looking for a mate. Sticky Fruit lets a transformed Chao keep its form through its next rebirth. Both rarely grow on Garden Trees and turn up in the shop.
- Gift confirmation: giving a Chao something valuable asks "Are you sure?" first. Tick Bulk Feed on the Chao menu to skip it for that Chao.
- Feeding Boxes under a Garden Tree catch its falling fruit, even while you're away.
🛠️ Fixes & balance
- Your island's portal home is always there. If it's ever damaged it puts itself back. If you've no portal to go back to (you came by the Hub), it takes you out of one you've used before, or any Chao Garden portal, or to world spawn.
- A crawling Chao's leg no longer spins round when it sets off.
- The Crystal Scanner's picture of the selected Chao shows again.
- The Black Market dealer turns up 1 day in 20, and his Black egg is a rare 1 in 250 offer.
- Bond from petting is capped at 30 per Chao per day.
- Creeper, Zombie, Spider and Skeleton DNA drop 1 in 4, like the rest, and the shop stocks 6 kinds of DNA every day.
- A Chao near a Garden Tree no longer comes back starving after its area was unloaded.
- The Chao Key can also be crafted from 4 diamonds.
- Winning the same race again on the same day pays no emeralds.
- Chao no longer whip round after spin attacks, and a carried Chao entering the dojo no longer duplicates into the PC.
- The How-To menu covers all of the above, with new Karate and Clothes pages.
Requirements
Fabric Loader, Fabric API and GeckoLib. Cobblemon is optional.
⚠️ Update the mod on your server and on every player's game together. Everyone needs the same version.
Optional dependencies
Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
