what is this mod?:
Confluence is a realistic fantasy angled Terrain generation mod that aims to avoid the usual mistakes a lot of terrain generation mods make.
Confluence adds:
- realistic mountains
- rivers that flow while not using minecraft water states for visuals
- Volcanos that look bad and should be removed
- 23 new biomes
- waterfalls that also look bad and should be updated
- lakes that are created based entirely on how a river flows at world creation
at this point in time, i would say that it's a fairly solid mod, and no i will not be professional about it.
here is an example of a waterfall:

how to use:
it's a custom world preset. so create a new world, and select confluence as the world type.
once you load in you should have the terrain generation. any issues you may find, please send my way.
the plan and the mod's future:
my goal is to create a terrain generation mod that looks realistic and beautiful while keeping generation times low along with FPS reasonable. as of version 0.4.0 the generation reads as fairly realistic but not quite yet fantasy flavored just yet. it's getting there! trust me!!!!11!
update 0.5.0 is gonna focus on more fantasy elements, the current major issues the terrain generation has will also be addressed. like for example:
-
ancient cities don't generate due to the bedrock moving with the mountains
this will be addressed by creating a new way they generate. possibly a hole that leads down to -400? we'll see.
-
the lack of wimsicle creatures
faries, gnomes, raccoons, forth thing. all of them will be part of the mod, and will be able to be turned off at world creation time and probably with a command.
-
more variety based on location.
more biomes, and more personality based on the hydroworld map generated at world creation
-
the world feeling not alive
the solution to this is really just a ton of tiny things. rocks that generate in the middle of rivers, waterfalls that have proper particles (and look better), tiny secrets, a proper implementation for village generation, more animals. really the list goes on, and i wont be able to get all of it implemented in 0.5.0 in a reasonable amount of time, even with the help i have now. but it's not about how long it takes, it's about the results.
Confluence is one mod in a family of fantasy styled mods i am working on. this family will include many things, and will devour the next 8 months of my life most likely.
as of August 15th 2026, i have gained another contributor to this project who will be helping me make the mod and mod colection even better and faster. i currently do not know what his modrinth account name is lol, but when i find out he'll be listed as a contributor.
Disclosures:
use in modpacks is freely given, but it's not nearly completed yet so newer versions might look very different from the current one.
the rivers use custom rendering, but they should be mostly compatible with sodium and iris.
AI was used for assistive help in this mod. specifically in the coding department and no where else. 90% of the code was written by me, and the other 10% were bug fixes that i couldn't figure out. also suggestions i guess. i will never release a version of this mod that entirely relies on AI generated code, and i am fully against slop mods.
