# Dynamic Join Greetings Dynamic Join Greetings is a configurable, server-side Fabric mod that gives new and returning players a more personal welcome whenever they join your Minecraft server. The generated configuration includes **60 ready-to-use greetings**: * **10 first-time join messages** * **50 returning-player messages** These messages work immediately with the default configuration, or you can completely customize both message pools to fit your server’s identity, theme, and community. The mod runs entirely on the server, so players do not need to install anything. ## Features * 10 preconfigured first-time greetings * 50 preconfigured returning-player greetings * Fully customizable first-time and returning message pools * Persistent UUID-based player history * Automatic detection of players from existing world data * Random, weighted, no-repeat, and shuffle-bag selection * Optional per-player message-selection history * Player-only, broadcast, and combined audiences * Configurable delivery delay * Multi-line messages * `{player}` and `{server}` placeholders * Colors, gradients, decorations, hover text, and click actions * Runtime configuration reloads * Preview, simulation, and status commands * Automatic recovery from damaged player-history files * Dedicated-server support with no client installation required ## Ready-to-use greetings Dynamic Join Greetings generates a complete configuration at: ```text config/dynamic-join-greetings.json ``` It includes separate collections containing 10 first-time greetings and 50 returning-player greetings. This gives server owners plenty of message variety without requiring them to write dozens of greetings before using the mod. The included messages can be used as-is, edited, removed, reordered, or expanded with additional entries. ## Customizable message pools First-time and returning greetings are configured independently. Server administrators can: * Add as many messages as they want * Replace every included message * Create single-line or multi-line greetings * Assign different selection weights * Enable or disable either message pool * Choose a separate audience for each pool * Include the player or server name using placeholders * Apply colors, gradients, decorations, hover text, or click actions * Reload changes without restarting the server Example first-time greeting: ```json { "id": "first_welcome", "weight": 1.0, "lines": [ "Welcome to {server}, {player}!", "Your first adventure begins here." ] } ``` Example returning-player greeting: ```json { "id": "return_welcome_back", "weight": 1.0, "lines": [ "Welcome back, {player}!" ] } ``` ## Message selection Dynamic Join Greetings provides three selection modes: * **Random:** Uses each message’s configured weight while optionally avoiding immediate repeats. * **No Repeat:** Prevents the same message from appearing twice consecutively whenever another message is available. * **Shuffle Bag:** Uses every configured message before beginning a new randomized cycle. Selection history can be tracked separately for each player or shared across the entire server. ## Placeholders and formatting Messages support two built-in placeholders: * `{player}` — the joining player’s current username * `{server}` — the server name configured by the administrator Placeholder values are escaped before parsing, preventing player names or server names from injecting formatting or interactive events. Message styling uses Placeholder API’s Simplified Text Format: ```text Welcome to {server}, {player}! Your first adventure begins here. ``` Supported formatting includes named and RGB colors, gradients, text decorations, hover text, click actions, fonts, translations, and keybinds. ## Message audiences Each message pool can use one of three audiences: * **Player:** Sends the greeting only to the joining player. * **Broadcast:** Sends the greeting to everyone except the joining player. * **Both:** Sends the greeting to every online player, including the joining player. This allows first-time welcomes to remain private while returning-player messages are broadcast—or any other combination that fits your server. ## Commands The following commands require vanilla permission level 2 (`GAMEMASTERS`) or higher: * `/joingreetings status` * `/joingreetings reload` * `/joingreetings preview first` * `/joingreetings preview returning` * `/joingreetings simulate first` * `/joingreetings simulate returning` Preview commands immediately display a selected message only to the administrator. Simulation commands test the complete delayed-delivery and audience workflow without changing the administrator’s first-time or returning-player history. ## Existing servers When installed on an established server, Dynamic Join Greetings scans Minecraft’s existing player data and imports known UUIDs as returning players. Existing community members will not mistakenly receive first-time greetings after the mod is installed. Player history is stored separately within each world and remains persistent across restarts. ## Requirements * Minecraft Java Edition 26.2 * Fabric Loader 0.19.3 or newer * Fabric API 0.160.0 or newer for Minecraft 26.2 * Java 25 Placeholder API is bundled with the mod and does not need to be installed separately. ## Installation 1. Install Fabric Loader and Fabric API on the server. 2. Place the Dynamic Join Greetings JAR in the server’s `mods` folder. 3. Start the server to generate the configuration. 4. Edit `config/dynamic-join-greetings.json` if you want to customize the included greetings. 5. Run `/joingreetings reload` to apply your changes. Clients do not need Dynamic Join Greetings installed. ## Links * [Source code](https://github.com/golso4243/DynamicJoinGreetings) * [Issue tracker](https://github.com/golso4243/DynamicJoinGreetings/issues) * [Formatting documentation](https://placeholders.pb4.eu/user/text-format/) ## License Dynamic Join Greetings is available under the MIT License.
