Exposed Ore Veins
Overview
Exposed Ore Veins changes ore generation so ore veins only remain when at least one ore block in that vein is touching air.
Instead of allowing fully buried ore pockets to stay hidden inside stone, deepslate, netherrack, or end stone, the mod removes those buried veins and replaces them with the matching surrounding ground block. The result is a world where mining rewards visible cave exploration and naturally exposed ore discoveries.
What It Does
- Keeps ore veins when at least one ore block is exposed to an air block.
- Removes fully buried ore veins that do not touch air.
- Applies to newly generated chunks, including chunks generated after adding the mod to an existing world.
- Supports vanilla ores and modded ores that use common ore tags or vanilla-style ore generation.
- Replaces removed ores with sensible ground blocks such as
minecraft:stone,minecraft:deepslate,minecraft:netherrack, orminecraft:end_stone.
Compatibility
The mod is designed to automatically support ores from other mods when those ores are tagged as common ores or are generated through Minecraft's standard ore feature system.
Modded Ore Support
- Ores tagged under common ore tags are detected automatically.
- Vanilla-style ore features are checked immediately after generation.
- A chunk cleanup fallback helps catch compatible ore blocks that are present after new chunk generation.
Installation Notes
This is a server-side world generation mod.
- In singleplayer, install it normally in the client mod folder because singleplayer runs an integrated server.
- On dedicated servers, install it on the server.
- Players do not need the mod on the client to join a dedicated server using it.
Important Details
- Existing already-generated chunks are not retroactively rewritten.
- Newly generated chunks in old worlds are affected.
- The mod changes world generation results, so make backups before adding it to important worlds.
- The intended behavior is simple: ore veins should generate only when the vein is exposed to air.
