This mod is for creating dummy items with the appearance of real items. It is required on both the server and client in order to function.
There is a new "forgery" item made of paper and several dyes, that can be crafted with any other item in order to take on its appearance. It will have none of the functionality of the original item, including crafting recipes, trading with villagers, breaking blocks, or attacking mobs. However it will retain all aspects of its appearance including its
- texture
- name (even if renamed)
- damage level
- enchantments
- Attack speed/attack damage, if listed on the original item
The original item is not lost in the creation of the forgery.
Although mainly it's a great gimmick, here are some use cases I can think of for it.
- If you have a treasured item like the dragon egg, or another item of significance in your world, place the original safely away somewhere, but display a forgery out in the open. The forgery may not fool anyone but it is good for decoration.
- Server owners could use forgeries to prevent misuse of currency items. Renaming a diamond is not sufficient to prevent players from trading it away with villagers, but turning it into a piece of paper that looks like a diamond may be quite effective indeed
- Make many forgeries of a hard-to-acquire item and hide the original among them in your storage to hinder theives
- Set up a game where players have to choose a splash health potion out of a chest before competing in a dangerous activity, but one of them is fake. They won't know if they chose a real one until they actually need it!
My point is that there are perfectly good uses of this beyond just trolling your friends, so be creative:)
