== Frontiers a2025.1.0: Just the Facts ==
A small update for the Halloween season, with some special Halloween content...obtainable year-round, of course!
Special thanks to @jesterrcore for helping with this update - this was his idea! :D
Additions
Blighted Birch
- A new wood set only obtainable from saplings found in Witch Huts
- Sports a unique, pale purple hue!
- The logs have unique properties; logs that haven't been cut yet will change color based on the time of day!
- Has the usual variety of wooden items - slabs, stairs, buttons, pressure plates, etc!
- Only things missing currently are doors, trapdoors, boats & signs. Those should appear in a future update...
- Similar to Oak Trees, sometimes the leaves will drop a unique fruit...
Pomegranates
- Drop from Blighted Birch Leaves
- Restores 1 hunger and 1.5 saturation
- Has a unique gimmick; when eaten, it will have a 75% chance of remaining in your inventory!
Witch Hat
- Dropped by Witches with a 2.5% chance
- Has 380 durability
- Doesn't provide any armor points, but has a few special abilities when worn:
- Potion drinking time is significantly reduced (25% the usual time)
- The wearer will have the same damage resistances that a Witch normally does
- Either of these effects will reduce the hat's durability each time
- Just like a Witch, the wearer will randomly produce little spell particles over their head!
Jungle Spider
- Spawns in the [read the name]
- Exclusive to Hardmode
- Smaller than both Spiders & Cave Spiders, has more health & damage, and is faster!
- To make it worse...it doesn't have glowing red eyes. Have fun. :)
- Getting bit on Normal difficulty and above inflicts the target with Weakness I
- Targets Chickens, Crows & untamed Parrots, because it's a Jungle Spider. It's gotta eat somehow.
- Drops 0-2 String, but no Spider Eyes
- Will try and spin a Cobweb in an open space every ~3 minutes. You could make a farm out of this...
Enchanting Magnet
- Crafted from 6 Glass, 1 Emerald Block, 1 Nether Star, & 1 Bottle o' Enchanting
- Acts as a unique method of storing Experience Points:
- Rather than being able to deposit your currently held Experience, Enchanting Magnets will instead attract nearby Experience Orbs
- Experience Orbs will actually prioritize Enchanting Magnets over players, making them great for mob farms
- Once the magnet is holding Experience, a little spinning orb will appear in the center
- The larger the orb, the more Experience is inside. The orb stops growing at 1200 points, and the magnet stops picking up Experience at 32767 points
- A comparator can be used to determine the stored amount: the comparator will output 15 once the magnet contains 1200 or more exp points
- There are two ways to extract stored Experience from the magnet:
- Use a glass bottle on it to get a single Bottle o' Enchanting - so long as there's at least 12 points inside. It'll cost you 12 points to withdraw a single bottle.
- If you're greedy and want it quick, just break the magnet without Silk Touch. It'll always drop itself without needing a tool, but if you break it without Silk Touch it'll drop exp...but at the price of only giving you 50% of the stored value inside!
- The magnet can be broken with any tool enchanted with Silk Touch to store the Experience inside, allowing you to bring it with you.
- Rather than being able to deposit your currently held Experience, Enchanting Magnets will instead attract nearby Experience Orbs
Item Vacuum
- Crafted from 4 Iron Bars, 1 Hopper, & 1 Spawner Chunk
- Absorbs nearby item entities
- If the Item Vacuum is empty, it'll pick up the nearest stack
- If the Item Vacuum contains something already, it'll pick up similar stacks as long as it doesn't go over max
- The item cannot be taken out by hand - use a Hopper or break it!
- Placing an Item Frame with an item above the Item Vacuum will make it exclusively pick up items of that kind, allowing for item sorting
Mana Orb
- Added basic implementation. Currently obtainable via the Creative-exclusive Bottle o' Magicks.
- Touches the player, makes a unique twinkly noise, then disappears. That's all for now. :P
- This is the basis for the soon-to-come magic system that Frontiers will add...
Pumpkin Golem
- Can be summoned by right-clicking a Carved Pumpkin with a Spirit Candle
- Only active during the night or during thunderstorms; will otherwise be completely unresponsive
- Can have one of seven unique faces!
- Pumpkin Golems can target and break any mature crops nearby it, while replanting them if able to
- The golems don't pick up the items, allowing you to decide what to do with them next, whether that be Allay pickups, waterfalls, etc!
- Only crops in the
"pumpkin_golem_pickable"and"pumpkin_golem_no_replant"block tags can be picked. This includes the following crops:- Wheat (Vanilla)
- Potatoes (Vanilla)
- Beetroots (Vanilla)
- Carrots (Vanilla)
- Nether Wart (Vanilla)
- Warped Wart (Frontiers)
- Cabbages (Farmer's Delight)
- Onions (Farmer's Delight)
- Rice Panicles (Farmer's Delight)
- Cotton (Rustic Delight)
- Bell Peppers (Rustic Delight)
- Coffee (Rustic Delight)
- Flax (Supplementaries)
- Leeks (Bountiful Fares)
- Maize (Bountiful Fares)
Crow
- An ambient mob that spawns in Dark Forests
- Has unique spawning mechanics based on time
- During Halloween, it can spawn so long as the moon is visible in the sky, at any light level
- Otherwise, it spawns between sunset-sunrise, at any light level
- Drops 1-2 feathers
- Has a special Easter Egg skin if you name it "Doom". #thosewhoknow
Crows are planned to be tameable in a later version, and will be able to help you out with a very specific task...
Misc
- Advancements
- "Jack o' All Trades"
- Summon a Pumpkin Golem by placing a Spirit Candle inside a Carved Pumpkin
- "Fountain of Knowledge"
- Take experience from an Enchanting Magnet using a Glass Bottle
- "Jack o' All Trades"

- Added some new splashes to the base splash list
- Added birthday splash texts for some important Frontiers team members
- Added some more contributor capes. :P
Changes
Eboncork
- Now has building block variants (stairs, slabs, fences + gates, button + pressure plate)
- Like Blighted Birch, doors, trapdoors & signs will appear in a future update. Sorry!
Guardian Slices
- Food values for cooked slices + integration items have been rebalanced
- Cooked Guardian Slice
- Saturation: 8.5 -> 3
- Cooked Elder Guardian Slice
- Saturation: 15 -> 4.8
- [Bountiful Fares exclusive] Breaded Guardian
- Buffed as to give reason to use over regular cooked slices
- Hunger: 8 -> 10
- Saturation: 4.8 -> 7
- [Bountiful Fares exclusive] Elden Bowl
- Saturation: 15 -> 7.2
- Cooked Guardian Slice
Quicksand
- Both variants can now be smelted into Glass in a Furnace
- Immune entities are now tag-driven instead of hardcoded
- This allows for other mods to add their own immune entities
- With the above change, several new entities are no longer affected by Quicksand (mostly mechanical entities):
- Jungle Spiders
- Item Frames
- Glow Item Frames
- Paintings
- Fireballs
- Small Fireballs
- Dragon Fireballs
- Item Displays
- Interactions
- Markers
- End Crystals
- Area Affect Clouds
- Falling Blocks
- Leash Knots
- Lightning Bolts
- Crags Stalkers/Monsters
Vanilla Changes
Halloween Easter Egg
- Updated timing (since only like 2% of people so happen to play minecraft all day on halloween)
- Halloween Easter Eggs now occur from October 20th to November 3rd - based on Bats spawning more frequently during this timeframe
- This means enemies will be wearing Pumpkin Heads for longer! Not to mention the Frontiers content to follow!
Witch Hut
- Now have a varying chance of having the red mushroom in their flower pots be replaced with a Blighted Birch sapling, being the only way to obtain it.
- During the Halloween season, this chance is guaranteed
- Otherwise, it has a 1/5 chance of replacing it
Witch
- Now has a 2.5% chance to drop its hat
Iron Golem
- Will no longer target Crawlers or Hoglins that have been tamed with Truffles
Misc
- Loading Screen
- Will now be colored orange instead of red during the Halloween event (unless monochrome logo is enabled)
This will likely be the final update for Frontiers before a hiatus; I've got game development to return to for the time being. That being said, this update has been super useful in getting ready for the next update to come; whenever it happens, I hope you're looking forward to it!
Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
