Gems and Crystals

Expand your Minecraft world with new gems, crystals, tools, armor, and enhanced world generation.
Gems and Crystals enriches your adventure with new materials, biome‑based ore generation, quartz growth mechanics, and complete equipment sets designed to complement vanilla progression.
New Materials
Discover and collect a variety of unique gemstones:
- Ruby
- Sapphire
- Topaz
- Amethyst (pre‑1.17 progression)
- Quartz (Overworld variant with growth blocks)

Each material includes its own items, blocks, and worldgen features.
Tools, Armor & Horse Armor
Forge powerful new equipment sets:
- Ruby Tools & Armor
- Sapphire Tools & Armor
- Emerald Tools & Armor
- Topaz Tools & Armor
- Amethyst Tools & Armor
- Quartz Tools & Armor

All materials also include matching horse armor.
Quartz Growth Blocks (1.5.0+)
Quartz now features a full growth system similar to amethyst:
- Budding Quartz
- Small Quartz Bud
- Medium Quartz Bud
- Large Quartz Bud
- Quartz Cluster
These blocks generate naturally inside Quartz Geodes and can be harvested normally.
World Generation
Explore a richer overworld with biome‑specific ore generation and small/large ore variants.
Ruby
- Rare, deep‑underground ore
- Found across most overworld biomes
Sapphire
- Common in cold and snowy biomes
- Appears in frozen peaks and mountain ranges
Topaz
- Spawns in warm biomes: deserts, savannas, badlands, meadows, warm oceans
- Generates higher in the world with occasional deep pockets
Amethyst Ore
- Found in cave‑dense and darker biomes
- More common in Deep Dark and underground cave systems
Quartz Ore
- Overworld quartz variant
- More common in mountainous terrain
- Does not generate inside geodes
Quartz Geodes
- Generate similarly to vanilla amethyst geodes
- Contain Budding Quartz, Quartz Buds, and Quartz Clusters
- Provide renewable quartz‑themed decorative blocks

Equipment Strength Overview
| Material | Tier | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Quartz | Below Iron | Early‑game option |
| Amethyst | Around Iron | Faster early progression |
| Topaz | Between Iron & Diamond | Mid‑game upgrade |
| Emerald | Between Diamond & Iron | Utility‑focused tier |
| Sapphire | Near Diamond+ | Biome‑specific rarity |
| Ruby | Diamond+ | High‑end gem tier |
Design Philosophy
- Enhances — not replaces — vanilla progression
- Rewards biome exploration
- Each material offers tradeoffs, not strict upgrades
- Multiple viable progression paths
