While having a whole horror aspect, the mod features a variety of cool items, biomes and mobs, mostly contained in Limbo, but your actions in Limbo can have consequences in the Overworld.
**⚠️Quick warning⚠️
**Some of the sounds used in this mod may be considered disturbing by the most sensitive users
Requires geckolib API to work
**💡TRUE DARKNESS MOD RECOMMENDED FOR A BETTER EXPERIENCE
**
(even more if you use shaders)
**# 🧭 Mod Guide ** To access the Limbo dimension, you'll have to craft a compass of pains and to light a portal made out of Chiseled Deepslate
The main ore you will find and use in Limbo is Darksteel. It is an equivalent to iron, but a little better. It also gives a brief wither effect to ennemies.
You can use Darksteel to craft light or heavy darksteel armors.
Heavy darksteel armor costs more and will make you heavy, slowing you down, but has a lot more protection.
It is even slightly better than netherite in terms of protection.
Light darksteel armor costs darksteel and ripped cloth (obtained from mobs) it exists in red and black variants.
It will make you lighter, reducing your fall damage, making you jump higher and speeding you up.
Darksteel also has its own building blocks.
**# 🕯️ Dark Rituals 🗡️
**#
Lost deep in Limbo, you might lose hope. You may turn to these spirits. These behemoths of power, the Dark Gods. You can build altars to them by placing two gristone blocks and any type of slab from the mod between them, with a skeletton skull on one side and candles on the other. To perform rituals, you will need offering idols, made from darksteel, grimstone, and dried blood, or cursed bones, darksteel and dried blood. (use the JEI mod to get all the recipes) You can direcly right click them on the dark altar (on the middle slab) to appease the dark gods. (If the offering succeeds, you will gain a lot of worthiness) you can as well hold them in our offhand, whilst right clicking on the altar with a darksteel dagger or a carbon blood dagger to start a ritual, which, if it succeeds, can give you very good loot, including otherwise unobtainable loot.
If you use offerings too much, the gods will punish you for your greed. If they see you as sinful, you won't be able to perform rituals. You can see your worthiness displayed using a Mirror of Souls, an item which becomes darker the worthier you are, and redder the unworthier you are.
Killing villagers restore your worthiness. When at full worthiness (10 : the mirror is pitch black), iron golems will attack you.
**# 🩸The Carbon Blood tool set# ** The end game set of the mod is called Carbon Blood. It includes every piece of armor and tool of a material set.
You first need to make Carbon ingots, which are made from 1 Darksteel Plate, 4 Coal, and 4 Whithered Apples.
Then, you need Dried Blood. for that, just put blood bottles in a furnace.
Finally, with 3 carbon ingots and 6 dried blood, you can make 4 Blood Infused Steel Ingots
For the tools, you'll also need a darksteel handle made from Withered Sticks and Darksteel Ingots.
As said previously, Just enough items is STRONGLY recommended, in order to know all the recipes, which are complicated and not fully detailed here.
With this, you can craft a quite powerful set of tools. It is less durable than Netherite but more than Diamond, more efficient than Nethetite, can be repaired with Blood Bottles in an Anvil, and give a brief Haste effect when right clicking.
Although the tools are quite powerful, the most interesting stuff that you can make are the armor and the sword.
**# The Carbon Blood armor set# **
Each piece individually protect you from the wither effect, and extinguish you instantaneously when on fire.
When fully worn, the Carbon Steel set gives the Wither effect to attackers.
Alone, this set is a quite good set, with more protection and toughness than Netherite in exchange for durability.
Its real power is revealed when drinking a Blood Bottle.
Alone, Blood Bottles give a slight regeneration boost in exchange for a slight hunger effect., for a small period of time.
With the Carbon Blood set fully worn, Blood Bottles give Strength II, Speed II, Saturation, and Bloodlust. They also repair your armor by a great amount.
The Bloodlust effect is an effect that gives you instanely quick regeneration
**# The Carbon Blood Sword# ** The Carbon Blood Sword is a very powerful sword. It deals 10 attack damage, and is slightly faster than a Netherite Sword. It has a 1 in 5 chance of doing a Critical Hit, which gives you a brief Bloodlust effect.
With the Bloodlust effect , you can use the sword's Blood Dash ability, by shift and left clicking on the ground under/around an entity (with a 20 blocks max distance from the entity), which will teleport you to it and deal a crazy amount of damage, while giving them the Wither effect
**# Creatures# ** Although Limbo fells empty and lifeless at first, you will soon realize it is not what it seems. In this dimension, you will encounter various monsters and abominations.
They are the tortured souls who roam endlessly in this place, with no purpose.
Some will only scare you, while some will chase you and kill you. Others might message you and stalk you.
I will not dive into further explanation to prevent spoiling.
**# ⛓️ Damnation# ** Beware
because if you die there, there is no way back. exept...
There are two ways to get back to the overworld.
The first way is to trade somebody else's soul for yours.
If you kill a living being from the overworld, be it an animal or a player that isn't stuck in the dimension, you will get your freedom back, and get teleported back to the overworld through a painful process.
The other way out is by killing the gate guardian, the final boss of the mod.
You first have to find his arena, the Dimensional gate. To find it, you have to get a Dimensional Gate Map.
It looks like a regular Codex Sheet (pieces of lore found in Tent structures) but gives you the exact x and z coordinates of the Dimensional Gate. It can be found in tends or obtained via a Dark Ritual.
To awaken him, right click with a flesh key on the keylock. When dying, he drops the dimensional key, the key that will get you back to the overworld.
The Gate Guardian is a god, so to kill him, you have to hold a godly power. For that, you have to craft the Thunder Sword, the only weapon that works against him. It strikes lightning on ennemies, charging the sword up by 7. The charge can go up to 150. When releasing the charge, you will unleash constant damage all around you while gaining an immensely rapid regeneration, and resistance for an amount of time that depends on the charge number.
The sword requires multiple materials such as Darksteel, Thunder gems, and the Templar Artifact
**The Damned Templar
**
The Templar Artifact is dropped from the Damned Templar, a boss that can spawn rarely in cold biomes, but can be summoned with a Cursed Amulet, craftable from the Crosses found in churches.
**🚪 Dimentional Breaching
**
Killing the Gate Guardiand and escaping the dimension using the dimensional key will shatter the boundaries between Limbo and the Overworld, which might lead to the release of creatures that aren't supposed to exist.
Therefore, each night, there is a chance for a "dimensional leak" to happen, during which multiple abominations can spawn in the overworld. Also, on rainy nights, the skinwalker might appear...

Mod showcase of Grim & Bleak by Smercallberg :
(take note that it was made on an earlier version of the mod, and therefore it doesn't showcase all the new features of the mod)
📖 About :
Grim & Bleak is an ambience focused semi-horror mod, that mixes horror mechanics with modded gameplay, with interesting features. It mainly adds one new dimension : Limbo, a completely dark and seemingly empty place at first glance, although you will quickly realize that you are not alone.
While having a whole horror aspect, the mod features a variety of cool items, biomes and mobs, mostly contained in Limbo, but your actions in Limbo can have consequences in the Overworld.
