Summary
Health and Disease mod is a modification to Minecraft that adds 61 new medicine and treatment items, 30 new diseases, 36 new symptoms and 6 cancers. It also contains 7 blocks to aid the player in treating and diagnosing diseases.
This mod tries to accurately depict diseases in Minecraft, however, not all diseases are 100% accurate thus far. Improving the accuracy of these diseases will come with new updates.
Short Guide
Contracting Diseases
Diseases are spread in a variety of different ways, however, most conditions arise when the player goes to bed. The most common diseases range between 1/100 days to 1/200 days, and some diseases are as rare as 1/1000 days. Other diseases such as Lyssavirus occur in specific conditions. Lyssavirus can only be caught by getting bitten by an infected wolf, where 1/10 wolves spawn with this condition. You can spot these infected wolves because they always have red eyes, and will attempt to attack the nearest player with 20 blocks. Once bitten by an infected wolf you will contract Lyssavirus.
Disease Symptoms and Early Warnings
Most diseases have some early warning symptoms, such as tiredness or malaise, these conditions usually come before an infection has fully started. Once a disease has taken hold, you will get a variety of different symptoms that do not seem to run out. These symptoms can range from lesions to fever, to a sore throat, and all of them together can be an indicator as to what disease you may have. For example, a sore neck only occurs in bacterial or viral diseases that affect the brain. Redness is another early warning symptom that can indicate that you have a S. Aureus infection.
Treatment
Almost all diseases can be treated and cured effectively in this mod, however, some diseases have a slight mortality risk even if treatment is pursued, such as Avian Influenza, Rabies, Cancer and most bacterial infections. While treatment can slow down and prevent death from cancer and meningitis, lyssavirus is completely untreatable when symptoms start showing up. To treat Lyssavirus, you have to use the Lyssavirus vaccine after you are bitten by an infected wolf, and before you get symptoms.
Infections can be broken down into four main types, Bacterial, Viral, Amoebic, and Miscellaneous. Treatments are the same, medicines are broken up into four main types as well, Antibiotic, Antiviral, anti-fungal/anti-parastic, and palliative care. Where Antibiotic medicine helps defeat bacterial infections, and antiviral medicine for viral infections, medicine for palliative care is different. Palliative care medicines include Acetaminophen, and Aspirin, as they reduce pain and other symptoms, but can help increase the quality of life of the player. Symptom care medicines are specialised medicines designed to handle a specific symptom, for example, Modafinil treats tiredness specifically.
Prevention
Disease Prevention is also a possibility, as vaccines prevent the player from even catching a disease in the first place. There are currently 3 different vaccines for 3 different diseases, Influenza, COVID-19 and Lyssavirus. These vaccines prevent the player from catching the targeted disease. The lyssavirus vaccine can also work after the player has caught the disease, but only when there are no symptoms.
Plans for future updates
