MegaPower Mechanic Overview
Overview
MegaPower is a special battle mechanic built around Mega Evolution, Ultra Burst, and Z-Moves.
The purpose of this mechanic is not simply to add extra visual flair, but to further strengthen the presence, strategic value, and decisive impact of Mega Evolution, Ultra Burst, and Z-Moves in battle.
In a standard battle system, these special powers often feel like one-time bursts of power:
Mega Evolution focuses on form change and raw stat improvement, Ultra Burst emphasizes a unique transformation, and Z-Moves are primarily explosive finishers.
MegaPower expands their role beyond that.
Rather than being simple one-time activation buttons, these mechanics become core systems that can change battle tempo, influence resource management, and shape both offensive and defensive decision-making.
In simple terms:
> When a PokƩmon successfully activates one of these special powers, that power does not stop at the burst itself.
> It is further converted into recovery, correction, or enhancement, giving Mega Evolution, Ultra Burst, and Z-Moves much greater tactical depth.
Design Goals
MegaPower is designed around three main goals:
1. Strengthening the battlefield presence of special mechanics
Mega Evolution, Ultra Burst, and Z-Moves are meant to be major turning points in battle.
MegaPower makes them not only look powerful, but also feel truly important in actual combat.
2. Increasing tactical value
MegaPower does not always give the same fixed reward.
Instead, it checks the PokĆ©monās current state and automatically provides the most meaningful benefit for that moment.
3. Tying burst mechanics to battle tempo
MegaPower allows these burst-oriented mechanics to influence the overall pace of battle.
It can stabilize a losing position, reinforce a neutral exchange, or push an advantage even further.
Trigger Conditions
MegaPower is triggered when any of the following special powers are successfully activated:
- Mega Evolution
- Ultra Burst
- Z-Moves
MegaPower is not a separate mechanic that exists on its own.
It is directly attached to these three systems in order to make them more impactful.
Core Rule
After a special power is activated, MegaPower automatically converts that power into the most valuable benefit based on the PokĆ©monās current condition.
Its resolution follows two main directions:
- If the PokƩmon is not at full HP: it focuses on healing and state correction
- If the PokƩmon is at full HP: it focuses on stat enhancement
This makes MegaPower a dynamic mechanic rather than a fixed heal or a fixed boost.
Numerical Foundation
MegaPower uses a point-based healing system:
- 1 heal point = 10% of the user's maximum HP
- Base healing = 5 heal points = 50% max HP
- Healing is always based on maximum HP, not missing HP
- The system can reduce healing as low as 0%
- The system can increase healing as high as 100%
This means every MegaPower heal falls into one of these exact values:
| Heal Points | HP Restored |
|---|---|
| 0 | 0% max HP |
| 1 | 10% max HP |
| 2 | 20% max HP |
| 3 | 30% max HP |
| 4 | 40% max HP |
| 5 | 50% max HP |
| 6 | 60% max HP |
| 7 | 70% max HP |
| 8 | 80% max HP |
| 9 | 90% max HP |
| 10 | 100% max HP |
Effects When Not at Full HP
If the PokƩmon is not at full HP, MegaPower prioritizes recovery.
However, the exact outcome depends on the PokĆ©monās current stat stages.
1. No stat changes: stable recovery
If the PokƩmon has no positive stat changes and no negative stat changes, MegaPower grants:
- 5 heal points
- Recovers 50% of max HP
This is the standard neutral outcome.
2. Negative stat changes are more severe: correct the worst drop and heal less
If the PokƩmon has negative stat drops, MegaPower checks the largest negative stat stage currently affecting it.
It then:
- selects one stat among the most severely reduced stats
- restores that stat by up to 5 stages
- reduces healing by the same amount
Formula:
- Healing = 5 - corrected stages
- minimum healing is 0
- maximum correction is 5 stages
Exact values
| Worst Negative Stage | Stat Correction | HP Restored |
|---|---|---|
| -1 | +1 stage | 40% max HP |
| -2 | +2 stages | 30% max HP |
| -3 | +3 stages | 20% max HP |
| -4 | +4 stages | 10% max HP |
| -5 or lower | +5 stages | 0% max HP |
Example
If a PokĆ©monās Speed is at -3, and that is its worst negative stat change, MegaPower will:
- restore 3 stages of Speed
- heal 20% of max HP
If multiple stats share the same worst negative value, one of them is chosen randomly.
3. Positive stat changes are more severe: convert boosts into stronger healing
If the PokĆ©monās strongest positive boost is greater than its strongest negative drop, MegaPower instead converts part of that advantage into recovery.
It then:
- selects one stat among the highest boosted stats
- removes up to 5 stages from that boost
- increases healing by the same amount
Formula:
- Healing = 5 + consumed stages
- maximum healing is 10
- maximum consumed boost is 5 stages
Exact values
| Highest Positive Stage | Boost Removed | HP Restored |
|---|---|---|
| +1 | -1 stage | 60% max HP |
| +2 | -2 stages | 70% max HP |
| +3 | -3 stages | 80% max HP |
| +4 | -4 stages | 90% max HP |
| +5 or higher | -5 stages | 100% max HP |
Example
If a PokĆ©monās Attack is at +4, and that is its highest positive boost, MegaPower will:
- remove 4 stages of Attack
- heal 90% of max HP
If multiple stats share the same highest positive value, one of them is chosen randomly.
4. Positive and negative sides are equal: one side is chosen randomly
If the strongest positive boost and the strongest negative drop are exactly equal, MegaPower randomly chooses one of the following paths:
- negative correction path
- positive conversion path
This means equal extreme values create an intentionally unstable but potentially high-impact result.
Effects When at Full HP
If the PokƩmon is already at full HP, MegaPower does not heal.
Instead, it grants +1 stat stage.
Full HP priority rules
1. First priority: Accuracy or Evasion
If the PokƩmon already has a positive Accuracy or Evasion boost, and that stat is still below +6, MegaPower will prioritize one of them and raise it by +1 stage.
- If one is higher, that one is chosen
- If both are tied, one is chosen randomly
2. Otherwise: highest core stat
If Accuracy and Evasion are not valid choices, MegaPower boosts the PokĆ©monās strongest core battle stat by +1 stage:
- Attack
- Defense
- Special Attack
- Special Defense
- Speed
The chosen stat is the highest stored core stat that is not already at +6.
3. If no valid stat can be boosted
If there is no valid stat left to enhance, MegaPower provides no further bonus in that full-HP case.
Battle Meaning
MegaPower changes the role of Mega Evolution, Ultra Burst, and Z-Moves in a fundamental way.
Without MegaPower:
- Mega Evolution is mainly a stat and form upgrade
- Ultra Burst is mainly a transformation
- Z-Moves are mainly single-use burst attacks
With MegaPower, they also become:
1. Turning points in battle
They do not just create a stronger moment.
They immediately reshape the state of the field.
2. Resource conversion tools
They allow players to convert power into:
- healing
- stat correction
- additional enhancement
3. Tempo-defining mechanics
Their value changes depending on the current state of battle, making them capable of influencing momentum rather than only providing raw power.
Key Features Summary
- Strengthens the core role of Mega Evolution, Ultra Burst, and Z-Moves
- Adds three layers of value: recovery, correction, and enhancement
- Uses exact, readable healing values from 0% to 100% max HP
- Makes special powers useful in losing, even, and winning positions
- Increases both tactical depth and battle tempo impact
