Smart Villagers

Smart Villagers gives Minecraft villages practical jobs, shared storage, player-directed building projects and new workplaces. Forge releases support Minecraft 1.19.2, 1.20.1 and 1.21.11.

Village work and construction

• Farmers harvest and replant; lumberjacks gather natural wood; gardeners plant; miners gather resources.
• Masons wait for your explicit building order. Shift-right-click a bell, choose a blueprint, location and team, check Materials, and press Start.
• Built-in houses, laboratories, markets and restaurants, plus .schem and .litematic imports. Holograms show unfinished blocks; pause, resume and cancel controls preserve progress.
• Builder material requests use the actual blueprint, including glass and exact wood species, and account for storage and carried supplies.

New professions

Beekeepers collect honey, cooks prepare meals, and guards defend the village. Scientists conduct supplied experiments in an equipped laboratory with specimen terrariums. Markets use managers, cashiers, janitors and stocked shelves. Restaurants use managers and waiters who carry real meals. Staff skill affects service and manager commission.

Rebels attack other villagers when their Rebel Camp is claimed; guards can fight them. Each custom profession has a distinct outfit and trades. Village mayors, resource quests, reputation and community events are also included.

How to use businesses

Stock a chest or barrel directly below a market shelf. Restaurant food storage must be beside a kitchen table or serving station. Give eligible adult shoppers money with an emerald shift-right-click. Right-click a manager desk to view status; its owner collects proceeds with an empty-hand shift-right-click. Goods, meals and emeralds are conserved and saved with the world.

Installation

Install the matching JAR and Forge version on the client and server, replacing the old Smart Villagers JAR. Keep only one version of the mod. An English and Russian guide book is supplied in game. Existing worlds are supported.

Optional cloud dialogue and content disclosure

Local dialogue is the default. Optional cloud dialogue requires a server-configured AI API key and HTTPS endpoint, and the player must choose cloud mode. It sends the requested message, player name, reputation and nearby village context to that provider; provider fees and retention policies may apply. Local mode works without a cloud API.

Code, profession textures and portions of text/documentation were developed with generative AI, including Codex and image generation. The releases are verified with automated game tests. This project remains available by direct link under Modrinth’s unlisted status.
