tl;dr

Markers hold all of your items exactly as you held them.

Markers are automatically placed when you die.

Right clicking or breaking a marker will siphon the items (exp too) back into your inventory like they never left.

Credit to geometrically_. I've used their 1.16.5 Gravestone Mod as a sort of reference to get a start on this mod.

I am moving over from Forge and I'm still trying to get a proper grip on Fabric but this was a fantastic learning experience.

Thank you again geo!

As it is right now, if the marker is NOT yours, you can't access it.

Breaking a marker that isn't yours will also remove all of its contents.

The only reason I'm releasing it like this is because I figure better something than nothing, right?

I'll be fixing that asap, I need sleep for now.

not long enough to skip

Just like above but I'll also mention that these markers actually "age" much like the new copper blocks oxidize.

Much like Mojang describing the copper blocks as "storytellers", these markers do just that while being useful and keeping your seat warm until you come back.

You can tell roughly how long you've left your plunder out in the cold/nether-warm depending on the state of the marker when you come back to it.

It might have nice and fresh dirt or even rotting purple stuff (mycelium) and mossy cobble. Yikers. Way to take care of the mysterious figure who places these markers so swiftly after death and even neatly stacks your goods.

How careless.

Anywho this is where the faq comes in.

F.A.Q

1. What's the big deal about this "aging" feature?

1.a) I'm legitimately glad you asked! Mojang decided to make the recently discovered to be, copper-exclusive feature, nearly totally unmoddable outside of copying their code and pasting it into your own.

You can't insert your own blocks into a sort of "Oxidize" list so like any other modder in 1.17 wanting to experiment with this idea, I made my own and quickly stumbled into an issue...

It totally deleted the items and all other data inside the block once it would "age"... So I fixed it and accidentally made a pretty nifty feature I'll likely be expanding on (and will totally allow anyone else to use for themselves, check out the source!). Which brings me to that other question someone was asking- Yes you over there.

2. Hi Greg Wallace from SomeTVNews, I was wondering if you were going to add anything new to this mod or will it just be "another gravestone mod"?

Well actually yes I will be adding more stuff to this mod. An example would be that as the marker ages over time, items will begin to "mysteriously disappear".

That of course will be a configurable option, like everything else I plan on adding.

Also things like maybe dimension/biome specific markers appearing and even situational markers (Pillagers killing you and leaving behind a sort of effigy).

Great question thanks for asking. Yup you?

3. Hey Brittany from ThisJokeIsGettingOld Chronicles, why are you insisting on calling them "markers" instead of graves?

Honestly it's because I don't want the mod to be limited in "scope". I know the scope is already pretty narrow but I want a little more than just tombstones showing up on death.

That and I like being surprised with different markers showing up- well, the idea of it at least. That feature isn't in yet.

Alright folks that's all the time we have for questions.

I'll be updating the mod as I can work on it. I have a part-time job and I'm also too frequently finding myself too sick to even do that so like my other mods, please don't expect 'frequent' updates- or even any at all if I'm being honest.

If you would like to use this source code for any of your own stuff, please do!
I encourage learning from others in any way possible.

This was my first second ever Fabric mod but I don't count the first because it's pretty much just a data pack (rotten flesh to leather mod, how original).

Anyway enjoy!
