Pioneers Additions

This mod adds custom features and game mechanics used on Pioneers SMP, which is a server I run privately.

You may be here looking for the Pioneers SMP Modpack (not currently listed), of which this mod is a part of.

Though Pioneers is a private server, I've decided to share the mod and the modpack so that others may use them with their own group of friends.

Features

The Pioneers

On Pioneers SMP, the players are known as "The Pioneers of The Realms" or simply the Pioneers.

In short, the story of the server revolves around these pioneers exploring the many realms created by the otherworldly entity known as The Architect. In reality, these separate realms are just the various different worlds which the server cycles through, with each server reset acting as a new realm to explore with a new theme, new modpack, and new challenges.

When using this mod, you'll find that players are often referred to as pioneers so hopefully this helps to show where that comes from.

The Lives System

As of 13/05/2024, this mod only adds a simple lives system inspired by the popular Life Series on Youtube.

A player gaining a life after killing another player.

This system is intended to create fun competition between players, with one player eventually being deemed the winner.

How it works

  • Each player has a set number of lives.
    • These lives are split into three colours - Green lives, Yellow lives and Red lives.
    • By default all colours have 3 lives, resulting in a total of 9 lives for each player.
    • You can change the number of lives for each colour in the config, so if you wanted to go with the more traditional 1 life per colour, you can.
  • When a player dies they lose a life.
    • Once a player loses all their Green lives, they turn Yellow.
    • Once a player loses all their Yellow lives, they turn Red.
    • Finally, once a player loses all their Red lives, they become a Ghost (more on this below)
    • By default, 1 life is lost for each death. This can be changed in the config.
  • Some players can gain lives by killing other players.
    • Green players cannot gain any lives.
    • Yellow players can gain lives by killing Green players.
    • Red players can gain lives by killing Green or Yellow players.
    • By default, 1 life is gained for each kill. This can be changed in the config.
  • Ghosts are an alternative to setting the player's mode to spectator (like in hardcore).
    • Ghosts are mechanically out of the game, meaning they cannot win.
    • However, Ghosts are not left twiddling their thumbs in spectator mode because that would be boring.
    • Ghosts can still interact with the world and the other players, which includes killing them, but they cannot lose or gain any lives.
    • Thus, being a Ghost can be an exciting experience since you have nothing to lose...
  • The winner of the game is the final player standing who has yet to become a Ghost.
