Quantum's Lamps
At its core, Quantum's Lamps is a simple Redstone Lamp variant mod.
Quantum's Lamps was initially created for the purpose of creating signs for shops that could be displayed during the day but also have them light up at night to create a more vibrant and fun world. Keeping the vanilla Redstone Lamp intact, you'll be able to craft a variant Redstone Lamp (called a Quantum Lamp) by switching around the Redstone Dust on the Crafting Table.
This then opens the door to crafting alphabetical, numerical, and punctuation lamps by applying Paper Labels, which are crafted with Redstone Dust and Paper. Not only that, you'll be able to dye the lamps using any of the 16 Minecraft vanilla dyes to create more variation through color. Additionally, all available Quantum Lamps function just like the vanilla Redstone Lamp.
To make the process of crafting Paper Labels easier, you'll be able to make copies of the Paper Labels by adding them to a crafting table with extra Paper, similar to the process copying vanilla maps.
A Quantum Lamp Guide Book, with all the information and Recipes you need, can be crafted with a Book, Redstone Dust, and a Redstone Lamp.
Quantum's Lamps Overview
Check out the following video for an overview of the mod.
Textures
The textures were inspired by Jermseyboy's redstone lamp in his "A Little Taste of Jerm" texture pack as seen in his content and in Fixxitt412's "World of Vasten" series. Having been a part of a few projects with both creators, I grew to love this texture pack very much, which I always still use. Quantum's Lamps accompanies this texture pack nicely, but will work well with most and vanilla textures too. The textures used on the Lamps were meant to fit a variety of styles. With a stained glass appearance, they will fit nicely on medieval builds while still being able to be applied to modern, post apocalyptic, or other styles.
Unfortunately, the "A Little Taste of Jerm" texture pack doesn't appear to be supported any longer, though it should still work should you choose to use it. I have also taken it upon myself to make sure the latest version of this texture pack is updated in terms keeping the textures functional. Re-dubbed as "A Little Taste of Quantum" I'm currently only offering access to this in my Discord via my YouTube channel membership. But do go check out Jermsyboys packs as its a great pack with a good variety of visual splender.
Fun Facts
-
Variants: With this mod, its important to remember that there are 16 Dyed Lamp sets. Lamp colors have been created from a pixel sample taken from each Minecraft Dye item. This mod also includes an un-dyed set (the base Redstone level set) making it a total of 17 new Redstone Lamp sets.
-
Blocks: The alphabetical group contains 26 Lamps, the numerical group contains 10 Lamps, the punctuation group contains 13 Lamps. Lastly, there's the 1 blank Redstone Lamp variant. This equals to each Lamp set containing 50 new Lamps. 50 new Lamps multiplied by 16 Dyes equals 800 new Lamps, plus the 50 un-dyed Lamps will total this to 850 new Lamps. However, to build this mod and how Lamps work in Minecraft, the on/off state of each Lamp is actually two different blocks that get swapped when switched ON and OFF. So, this in reality is actually 1700 new Lamps that have been created, though you'll only see half in your storage.
-
Textures: The OFF state of each Lamp only uses a single texture. That's 50 textures per dye set. Multiplied by the 16 dyes and 1 un-dyed set, this comes to 850 new textures for the OFF state of Lamps. The ON state is an animated block with 3 different textures being sequenced. This means that 2550 textures were created for the ON state of the Lamps. This comes to a total of 3400 new textures having been created for the mod.
-
Additionally: There are 50 new items, the Paper Label items that allow you to craft the letters, numbers, and punctuation onto the Lamps and the Quantum Lamp Guide Book item.
Future Updates
There are already some thoughts on improving this mod further. Currently there's no time expectation on when these will be completed or available, and they will be occurring at a much calmer pace. As updates to the mod occur, I'll be making pre-releases of these updates available in my Discord through special access made available by my YouTube channel membership until they are finalized and available here.
- Lecterns: Currently in version 1.0, placing the Quantum Lamp Guide Book on a Lectern is not possible. (I haven't figured this out quite yet) It's not a big deal but one I'd like to make possible.
Special Thanks
Special thanks to some great friends and creators (Sunfire_SG and CraftingMantis) for following the progress of this mod and for testing at various stages of its creation.
Please Note
I'm not a programmer or mod maker on a regular basis and it took me some time to produce Quantum's Lamps. I made this mod because I wasn't really seeing anything else like it and because I wanted to make a mod for the first time.
This mod was made using MCreator and I found it to be an amazing tool. That being said, I created Quantum's Lamps for NeoForge and at this current time there will be no intention of porting this over to other mod loaders like Quilt, Fabric, etc., unless a way is developed to directly convert the mod for other loaders with minimal upkeep on my end. I will only focus on updating for previous and future versions of Minecraft within my ability to do so.
