SafeBase : Create safe zones with vanilla blocks!
SafeBase lets you create an invite-only safe zone around your base. Keep other players from donkin' around with your stuff!
How it works : Lectern + White Wool
Place a lectern on top of a block of white wool, then add a book-and-quill to the lectern. That's all it takes to create a SafeBase for yourself!
The safe zone is a square, 128 blocks across, centered on the lectern, and it extends the entire height of the world. Anyone else who tries to cross the border, 64 blocks out, gets stopped.
The book has to be an unsigned book-and-quill. Signed books are ignored, because they can't be rewritten.

Allow Your Friends
Write the names of your friends in the book-and-quill, one per line, and when you place it on the lectern they'll be the only other players allowed into your SafeBase. No one else will be able to pass through the invisible barrier.
Whoever places the book-and-quill is always allowed into their own SafeBase.
Once the zone is active, SafeBase rewrites the book into a tidy list of names, one per line, so the book always shows exactly who is on the list.
If the zone can't be created, you get a "SafeBase Failed" title telling you why, and your book is left exactly as you wrote it.
Ban Griefers
If you put black wool under the lectern, the names of players in the book are forbidden access to your SafeBase. In other words : Use white wool to make the list of names a "whitelist" and black wool to make the list of names a "blacklist".
How is a SafeBase protected?
When a forbidden player comes within 32 blocks of your border they get a warning title and a bell. If they keep going and cross the border, they're put straight back outside and shown a "SafeBase Denied" title.
There's no sneaking in. They cannot use Ender pearls, Nether portals, Chorus fruit, a teleport, etc. If they're riding a boat or a horse, they and the vehicle are both moved back out. If they fly in with Elytra, they are safely turned around mid-air.
Forbidden players are sent back to the last safe spot they stood on, or, failing that, their bed or respawn anchor.
Customise Zone Size
You can add up to 8 more blocks of wool next to the original block, to form a 3x3 platform. Each additional block of wool expands your SafeBase by another 64 blocks across. The additional wool must be the same colour as the original block (ie, white or black).
- 1 wool : 128 blocks across
- 2 wool : 192 blocks across
- 3 wool : 256 blocks across
- 4 wool : 320 blocks across
- 5 wool : 384 blocks across
- 6 wool : 448 blocks across
- 7 wool : 512 blocks across
- 8 wool : 576 blocks across
- 9 wool : 640 blocks across
Add or remove an outer wool block at any time and the zone resizes to match.
Rules
- Two SafeBases can't overlap.
- A SafeBase can't cover world spawn.
- Break the lectern, take the book, or break the wool directly under the lectern, and the zone is gone.
- Careful when you grow a zone. If the bigger size would overlap another SafeBase or cover world spawn, the zone is destroyed rather than resized. You'll get a "SafeBase Disabled" title saying which.
Notes for Admins and Ops
Ops bypass all SafeBase enforcement, and so do players in spectator mode.
By default all players can create SafeBases, but an Op can selectively remove the ability for selected players (blacklist). Denying a player also disables the SafeBases they already own.
Alternatively, by editing the config file, all players can be denied from using SafeBase, but an Op can selectively allow the ability for selected players (whitelist).
/safebase list : List all SafeBases
/safebase info <id> : Learn more about a SafeBase
/safebase disable <id> : Disable a SafeBase
/safebase allow <player> : Allow a player to create SafeBases
/safebase deny <player> : Deny a player from creating SafeBases, and disable their zones
/safebase refresh : Re-read the config and zones from disk
/safebase help : Show all commands
Config Options
particle-effect: The effect shown over the wool platform, tinted white for a whitelist zone and purple for a blacklist zone.color-ring(default),beacon,colored-beacon,shield-dome.warning-moat-width: How far past the border the warning starts. Default 32.warning-cooldown-seconds: How often the same zone can warn the same player. Default 30.zone-creation: Who may create SafeBases, plus the allow and deny lists.
Technical
Server-side Fabric mod. There is nothing to install on the client, and vanilla clients connect normally.
Requires Fabric API. There are no other dependencies.
Zones and config are stored as simple YAML files under config/SafeBase/.
The list of SafeBases persists across server reboots. Structures are re-checked every couple of seconds : if the lectern, the book, or the centre wool block is gone, that zone is deleted, and the owner is told why if they're online.
SafeBases can be "reset", in the case of problems, by removing and re-placing the book-and-quill.
