Shears Disable Tripwires Again
A Minecraft Forge mod that restores the classic tripwire trick: left-click a tripwire with shears to disarm it without triggering it - just like before Forge removed the functionality. String dupers work again.
How to Use
- Hold shears in your hand
- Left-click a tripwire string
- The string is disarmed without triggering the tripwire
That's it. Sneaking is not required, and you do not need to face any particular direction.
What Was Fixed (1.20.1, version 1.1.0)
The old versions were unreliable: you often had to be sneaking, and the mod only worked when you happened to aim at the tiny sliver of a hitbox that a string has - which is why "facing south" seemed to matter. All of that is fixed:
- No more direction/aim guessing. If you click near a tripwire, the mod finds it along your view and disarms it, even when the click lands on the block behind the string.
- No sneaking required. Just hold shears and left-click.
- Farms keep running forever. Disarmed tripwires are tracked by the server and restored automatically if water or pistons destroy them, so your duper no longer dies after a cycle or two.
- Cleanup works. Break a disarmed tripwire with your hand or any other tool to remove it completely (previously it could get stuck forever).
Notes
- Shears can never break a tripwire; they always disarm it. To remove a tripwire, use your hand or any tool other than shears.
- Disarmed strings still drop normally when destroyed, so they work with string duplication farms.
Installation
- Install Minecraft Forge for your Minecraft version
- Download the version of the mod that matches your game
- Place the .jar file in your Minecraft mods folder
- Launch Minecraft with the Forge profile
Compatible Versions
- Minecraft 1.18.2 (Forge 40.3.0)
- Minecraft 1.19.2 (Forge 43.4.0)
- Minecraft 1.20.1 (Forge 47.4.0) - v1.1.0, fully fixed
- Minecraft 1.21 (Forge 51.0.33)
- Minecraft 1.21.1 (Forge 52.1.0)
- Minecraft 1.21.10 (Forge 60.1.0)
The reliability fix (no sneak, no direction requirement, self-restoring farms) is currently live in the 1.20.1 build. The other versions will be updated to match.
