Shut Up, Grass
Vegetation only drops when you break it with the right tool. Rip leaves off a tree with your fist and you get nothing: no stray saplings, no sticks, no apples. Want the drops? Use the proper tool.
This is a small, server-side mod that decides whether a plant drops based on what you break it with. It does not add items or change drop amounts. It only turns the normal vanilla drop on or off.
What needs what
| Vegetation | Drops with |
|---|---|
| Leaves, leaf litter | Hoe, or any Silk Touch tool |
| Saplings | Hoe, or Silk Touch |
| Crops and nether wart | Hoe, or Silk Touch |
| Flowers | Hoe, shears, or Silk Touch |
| Grass, ferns, dry grass, bushes, moss carpets, vines | Hoe, shears, or Silk Touch |
Break any of these with the wrong tool or bare hands and they drop nothing.
Sugar cane, cactus, bamboo, kelp, seagrass, cave vines, sweet berries, dripleaves and lily pads are left fully vanilla on purpose. Right-click harvesting, like sweet berry bushes, is never affected.
Configuration
Every rule lives in config/shut-up-grass.json, generated on first launch. You can add blocks, change which tools count, add enchantments, or remove rules. Block and item ids or #tags both work. Changes apply on /reload, no restart needed.
By default only player breaks are gated. Set non_player_breaks to APPLY_RULES if you also want leaf decay, pistons, water and explosions to respect the rules.
Compatibility
- Server-side. Install it on a server or in singleplayer. Vanilla clients can join a server that runs it.
- No dependencies. No Fabric API required.
- Fabric only, Minecraft 1.20 through 26.2. Download the file matching your version.
